My front yard today taken with my new toy.

An emerging water lily. This photo was taken right after a magnificent summer storm. You can see the dark grays of the ominous clouds reflected in the water.
I’ve read “Popular Photography” since the 1970’s, It was only this year that I began to subscribe again. While looking through the new issue last Thursday I came upon one of my photos on page 14, along with my name! / I was thrilled and this is the photo. The photo was taken in Holmdel Park in NJ, there you will find the historic LongStreet Farm. I framed the scene / across the lake with some Autumn tree branches.
I don’t have one of those open, obstruction-free expanses of water near where I live (apart from the sea, I s’pose). All I’ve really got is this salty pool. But it’s my salty pool. Well, it’s not actually ‘mine’. It probably belongs to the toffs at yacht club next door, but for the purposes of this photo – it’s mine. It’s set back just off the beach and it’s affected by the tides. It’s also home to over a gajillion crabs, so wade in barefoot at your peril. And then there’s the syringes and broken beer bottles. Ah well. At least it looks pretty. Sometimes.
Little Boat was just resting and waiting out the storm on the lovely lily pond, when the sun decided to pop thru the low fog and clouds…what a lovely day ensued… ;-)
Sky and clouds reflected in a pond.
Mendenhall Glacier near Juneau, Alaska. Named after US scientist Thomas Corwin Mendenhall (1841-1924). I took this photo in July with Nikon D70. Featured in Alaska – Beyond Your Dreams group 26/02/2009 /
Taken in the New Forest National Park UK on a windy and stormy evening just before sunset. This was an incredible sight and the best lighting I’ve seen to photograph.
A torrential downpour had just ended and the late-day sun was breaking through the dark gray clouds. I stopped and grabbed a quick shot of this richly colorful haven, where the rainwater had created a new pond. The rain had effectively intensified the fall colors in the autumn tinted tree leaves and highlighted the lush green grass. The sun’s golden rays were lighting the entire scene on fire! I still pass by this location regularly, but it has never looked anything like this image again! This photo was captured “handheld” with a Canon EOS 10D body fitted with a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L Zoom lens, at the widest focal length. The shutter speed was 1/250th sec at f/4.5. The camera’s ISO was set to 100. Your comments are always welcome! Constructive criticism is appreciated. © 2009 Gene Walls All copyright and reproduction rights are retained by the artist. Parque Nacional de Los Glaciales, El Chalten ( Argentina ) ! After hiking a few hours I came across this beautiful scene, at least for me. Although I could feel like a sense of desolation at the same time I loved the scenery in front of me. / It may look a quite a simple shot.. and it was… but I was so exhausted that I really struggled to take my camera and press the bottom. / I think I could have taken fantastic pictures here just my body and my mind were too tired !
Location: Saganashkee Slough in northern Illinois. I never see photographers here and have managed to claim this spot my own.
