The SS Dicky was washed ashore onto Dicky Beach in 1893 during a cyclone. It was re-floated, but again, heavy seas turned the ship about and back onto the sand where it remains to this day. / / The suburb and beach was named after the ship. The beach is an unspoilt stretch of sun-drenched sand, on Queensland’s magnificent Sunshine Coast. Taken with my 5D and 16-35mm lens and I was so lucky to have a nature spectacle as the fog rolled in from West creating a mystic ambience I have also written a photographers guide if you are interested in knowing more about this site

This shot was taken in The Water Run on the Coastal Walk in Royal NP just south of Sydney Australia. It was a wild and stormy evening and the sun just started to emerge from the clouds behind me as it was setting. The blue tint to the water comes for a very short period around sunset – you can just see it in any moving water at this time in the right light but the camera really picks it up. Canon 30D / Tv: 1/6sec / Av: f/13 / ISO: 100 / FL: 28mm

Taken at the Waterrun, Royal National Park just south of Sydney. The rainbow is from some wave spray and that’s a little waterfall off to the left. / This shot was taken at dusk about an hour before Poetry of Chaos. It was amazing watching the storm come in and the colours changing and the sea swell growing. One of the great privileges of living in this park is watching the same landscapes in a myriad of different moods depending on the weather and time of day. Sailing boat that ran aground at Carpenters Rocks, Limestone Coast, South East South Australia. Went on a group photoshoot last night, seven of us out in the weather….. This boat is only visible like this on extremely low tides just East of the lighthouse at Carpenters. Canon 400D, 18 -55 lens, polarising filter, HDR 3 shot merge in Photomatix.

It was blowing a gale while taking these photos, there was lighting strikes to the far right of the picture, but I wasn’ able to capture any. I didn’t think any of these would turn out any good considering the conditions, so it was a nice suprise to come away with some nice shots. not long after this was taken it started to rain and the people fishing and myself made a mad dash for our cars. all in all a fun afternoon.

A re visit today to the shipwrecked sailing vessel, “Pisces Star” that came aground over ten years ago near the Lighthouse at Carpenters Rocks, Limestone Coast, South Australia. Extremely low tide today and great sky’s allowed for some panorama sets with an old tripod sitting in salt water…. Canon 400D – 18-55 with CIR Polarising lens. 5 shot set stitched in Photoshop CS3.

This little gem can be found just around the corner from Loch Ard Gorge near Port Campbell off Victoria’s Great Ocean Road, Australia. I came here the afternoon before and there were snap happy tourists everywhere but decided to come back the next morning and there wasn’t a soul in sight, just the crashing ocean to keep me company… Unfortunately as of early June 2009 this archway has collapsed leaving two apostles next to eachother. 3200 ISO is a brave new world for me. As a self confessed low ISO junkie, one who used Ektar 25 film whenever and wherever he could for many years because I wanted tight grain, the tighter the better, I would pull out all the stops I could to use that amazing ISO 25 film! For sure I’d never gone above ISO 1000 and then only to shoot indoor sporting events. Low ISO was(?) a hang-up for me! But I wanted to try astral photography and high ISO can get you there! However as we all know high ISO leads to increased noise which is something fairly new to me. You can use software and Photoshop plugins but I’ve been considering, one way to control noise would be to minimize or eliminate it by keeping the ISO as low as possible and that’s one way I‘m leaning. So in that regard it looks like a fast 50 prime is in order! It’s fun to be experimenting and learning, eh! Featured in Dimensions – November 2009 / Featured in Light In The Darkness – August 2009 This one was taken on the 22nd of August 2009 from Elephant Rock at Currumbin beach – a sunrise no photograph can describe. Shot using a 450D with a Sigma 10-20 at 10mm. 3 shots – 13s, 2.5s and 1s exposures using F/22 and Iso 100. Exposure blending using Photomatix and processed in CS4.
