  • It was Mother’s Day when we went to San Juan Atitan, in the hills of northern Guatemala. They take it pretty seriously up there. Fiesta country. Everybody- bar nobody (except us visitors)- was dressed in these fantastic outfits- brown woolen vests, purple and maroon and red shirts, the men in white dress pants and straw boaters. It was a sight to see en-masse, hundreds of them gathered in the plaza, all in a festive mood. Jorge works for us as a development worker in his own communities, helping mobilize families in the various long-term projects we carry out up here. He smiled a lot more than this, but the moment the camera went in his direction, he looked very serious. But that is one snazzy outfit he has. I think the next time I go I’ll have to get one of my own… :o) May 2007.

  • Her Orders… “These men have failed me, remove them at once!” the queen motioned / “Yes my lady” the demon replied It seems our Queen was not fully pleasured and she dismisses her servants as if they were mere mortals. Perhaps these servants will return with a vengeance to punish the Queen for her unjustified disposal. / . / . / . / Did you order this CARD today? • With this series of images of Geoffrey I was able to (finally) see how it is that I experience portraiture. In my approach I reach for the inner image of the person by utilizing the imagination they have for themselves and then create a sort of theatre in the lens that allows them to act out and beyond their daily persona. This photograph is lit with window light only.
