  • I’m sending you my love, / no need to send it back. / You still have my heart / and my life is in a wreck. Memories fill my mind and / my arms ache to hold you tight. / I can’t get past yesterday / when you were all mine. Have you stopped loving me / or did you just give up? / Is there the slightest chance / that you could take me back? / If you’ve searched your heart / and you want to be set free, / I’ll try and understand / no matter how it hurts. / I want you to be happy, / you deserve that much. Just don’t send back my love, / it’s all yours to keep. / And if you ever need some one, / I hope you’ll call on me. • I dedicate this image to Chris Ewing and the words he recently wrote about a close friend. This is my wife’s claddagh ring that I placed inside a yellow rose outside in the snow. Interestingly, I tried to upload this image before St. Patrick’s Day only to find the file damaged. I have been frustrated with the damaged file for months now. However, after reading Chris’s letter/journal, I looked in a different folder that had smaller files that I submitted to an Art Gallery in Chicago and it opened up completely undamaged. Kind of weird. But I’m glad I found an undamaged file because I have always like this image. Now it’s ready for next year’s St. Paddy’s Day. Hope you like it Chris. Maybe you should buy one for your friend? Some Claddagh ring info from Wikipedia: The Claddagh’s distinctive design features two hands clasping a heart, and usually surmounted by a crown. The elements of this symbol are often said to correspond to the qualities of love (the heart), friendship (the hands), and loyalty (the crown). The expression which was associated with these symbols in the giving of the ring was: “With my hands I give you my heart, and crown it with my love.” Yet, the expression, “Let love and friendship reign forever.” can be found as another meaning for the symbols.

  • This is a classic example of one of the very first varieties of the rose. It has been around for hundreds of years and it is still as popular as it was back then. This is botanically named a “Rosa Gallica Versicolor” also known as the Rosa Mundi. A more common name given to is “Strawberries & Cream”. The droplets of water seem to be only just hanging on and will at anytime fall and ruin the picture. Taken with a Canon EOS 350D using a Tamron 28-80mm macro lens.

  • This is a very old rose and has been known and loved for hundreds of years. It is a “Rosa Gallica Versicolor” also known as the Rosa Mundi. Its common name is “Strawberries & Cream. Looking straight down into this rose it looked as it the petals had been rolled up like a newspaper. To my eye it looked fascinating and showed a completely different perspective to this rose. Taken with a Canon EOS 350D using a Tamron 28-80mm macro lens.

Roses are ancient symbols of love and beauty. The rose was sacred to a number of goddesses (including Isis and Aphrodite), and is often used as a symbol of the Virgin Mary. ‘Rose’ means pink or red in a variety of languages (such as Romance languages, Greek, and Polish). A red rose (often held in a hand) is a symbol of socialism or social democracy: it is used as a symbol by British, Irish, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, Finnish, Brazilian, Dutch and other European labor, socialist or social democratic parties. This originated when the red rose was used as a badge by the marchers in the May 1968 street protests in Paris. The White Rose was a World War II non violent resistance group in Germany. A bouquet of red roses is often used to show love. It is used as a Valentine’s Day gift in many countries. On St George’s Day in Catalonia people offer dark red roses as gifts, especially between lovers. The Virolai, a hymn to the Virgin of Montserrat, one of the black Madonnas of Europe, begins with the words: “Rosa d’abril, Morena de la serra…” (April rose, dusky lady of the mountain chain…). Therefore this virgin is sometimes known as “Rosa d’abril”. The red rose is thus widely accepted as an unofficial symbol of Catalonia.

  • My earlier in the summer find of that very cool white/transparent flower crab spider that everyone loved so much even when creeped out had babies!! Or at least had ONE baby that I found today on the last rose of the season!! I know that it isn’t the same one because it is smaller and the red pattern on it’s back is lighter. I must admit it scared the living $x%x* out of me as I was reaching to hold the rose still for a few closeup and he crawled out on the petal right in front of my nose! I am just glad that he hung on when I let the branch go!! LOL Gave me a chance to catch my breath before the shoot started:) Loving the new Canon 500D and my new Sigma 70mm EX DG Macro lens!! / Taken in Airdrie, Alberta Canada Sept 14th at 6:15pm MST Featured in: Super Macro Photography and Extreme Closeups and In The Pink /
