Well, I’m back from the farm….almost froze it was so bloody cold (OK, not as cold as in some parts of the world, Simon, but I was bloody cold!! lol) Of course the first image I post has to be IR, so here it is. Filter almost froze to the lens, but I had to get this in infrared. Camera: Canon EOS 450D / Filter: R72 / ISO 400 / f/4.5 / Focal Length: 18mm / Exposure: 25sec / Tripod and frozen fingers and toes. And no, it wasn’t snowing, the grass was green, it just goes white with the ir filter.

I found this leaf totally stripped of its green (or red or???) covering and just perfect in its skeletal form, lying on the ground as I walked in the local woods. The actual size is 4” in length. BEST VIEWED IN LARGER MODE! / Taken with Nikon D80 1/60s f/13 ISO 250 105mm macro lens on tripod /

Featured in Changing Zoom Lenses – Sep 20th, 2009 The Mute Swan (Cygnus olor) is a species of swan, and hence in turn a member of the duck, goose and swan family Anatidae. It is native to much of Europe and Asia, and (as a rare winter visitor) the far north of Africa. It is also an introduced species in North America, Australasia and southern Africa. The name ‘mute’ derives from its being less vocal than other swan species, though it is not always silent. / Mute Swans nest on large mounds that they build with waterside vegetation in shallow water on islands in the middle or at the very edge of a lake. They are monogamous and often reuse the same nest each year, restoring or rebuilding it as needed. Male and female swans share the care of the nest, and once the cygnets are fledged it is not uncommon to see whole families looking for food.
