Why have I joined the TOYS and Puppets group ? / Well firstly this big girl just loves toys. Specially clockwork ones and wooden ones. / Right now I am clearing out my Mother’s house and finding she has kept all our old toys. ( Aaaaah!!!!Memory lane ) / Of course these will have to be photographed before they go on e-bay. They are very interesting (and valuable so a dealer has told me). I even found all the moth eaten dolls clothes my Grandma knitted for me over 60 years ago. Just hang on bubblers and you will see them all…lead soldiers to teddies. I have always loved and treasured toys, maybe because they they were a hard to come by just after WW2 when I was a kid. My earliest memorable experiences with toys was 1946 when an advertised “washable” dolly horrifyingly disintegrated in the bath before my eyes….same year that my ringlets became painfully entangled in the clockworks of my brothers “Royal Scotsman”. I can remember my screams. I think Mum got a refund on the doll, but I lost my curls as scissors were the only means of escape. Well here I am today , reasonably recovered from the traumas of 1946 without any therapy. And I still love clockwork toys and dolls. My own children have long flown the nest but visiting kids ask “How come you have such great toys?’ Well firstly because I have kept each of their toys and books which passed the “well favoured” test, and secondly because I still occasionally buy good toys at op shops and sometimes new ones too. / What is my fall time favourtie toy? Once it was my “Mr Potato Head, but now I guess the Russian stacking doll…there are a lot of imaginative games you can play with her.
