Harbour Bridge Climbers on the way down…. Sydney, Australia, October 2007 (Untouched) Bridgeclimb Passionate as I am about all things Australia at the moment…. I thought I would share one of my favourite experiences…... / I managed to complete the climb myself, (despite a completely irrational fear of heights!), and would highly recommend the experience to EVERYONE! / Some will say “but the pylon lookout is much cheaper”.... yes, but the sense of achievement and 360 degree views of the beautiful city are well worth the extra dollars!!!

Climbers on the Sydney Harbour Bridge Part of a new series I’m thinking about “Gritty City”. Bit tired of only showing the pretty city, so grittiness coming. Mainly b&w, I think – it’s a thought in progress…. © Sara Lamond 2007 / /

Scanning old negatives from my archive, I have found a photograph of Cinque Torri (Five Towers) and Tofanas taken very late in the afternoon. I liked the combination of dark clouds and remaining summer haze that made the background looking very flat like in a painting. Just before clouds covered the sun completely, last rays fell on the Cinque Torri, a group of rocks very popular by climbers. To complete the feeling I had about the picture, I’ve applied ‘colored pencils’ filter in post-processing of this photograph. Dolomiti, Italy. August 2001. Canon EOS 500N, Sigma 28-135. Post-processing: retouch, sharpening, colored pencils, color enhancement, blend modes. Detail of the image showing the ‘color pencils’ effect:

This image shows part of the “face” of the Matterhorn, right below the top. If you zoom in you can make out 3 climbers on the shoulder (where the snow is) one close to the top, one about in the middle and one shortly below that one (diagonally). Can you see them? =) I took that out of an “Air Zermatt”-helicopter, flown by one of those fearless pilots rescuing people out of the mountains. All too often they can only retrieve corpses. I uploaded it for the calendar, but I hope you like it, too. I love the texture of that rock, the brown part is a vertical drop a few hundred meters deep.
