A common raccoon found here in Canada both in cities and in remote forests. They are so abundant that you are likely to find roadkill at least every kilometer during spring and fall. In the city of Toronto they are so abundant, the city council is now talking about culling them. This image of mother and young one was taken across the street from my house in a little park area. Their tree had fallen in a storm and momma was in the process of moving her babies to a safe haven under a neighbours deck. She would find that it really isn’t as safe as she would like. People take all sorts of measure to get rid of them as they are very destructive and will spread garbage all over your yard. The males will grow to as large as a medium size dog. The young ones are fun to play with when they are very tiny but they cannot be kept as pets as they are a wild animal and cannot be tamed. They can be very vicious when defending themselves against enemies. / / /
Tucker the tabby got up there real easy. It was another matter getting down. November 2008, Eugene, Oregon.
About The last sunrise of 2008! Taken at Burleigh Heads, Queensland. This was the first time for me there and Lance. It’s a sweet spot and looks fantastic for Sunset also. Climbing down to the the rocks is a little tricky though, rather slippery but no match for my Keen’s! I was sitting on a rock when I took this. The interesting thing is the surfers – they just jump across the rocks in bare feet! There was a large group of them later in the surf with an purple flare – I assume to signal the end of 2008! - ISO 100, f11, 21 sec, 10mm / - Sigma 10-20mm Lens / - Tripod with sand in the joints Processing - HDR using Photomatix (2, 0, 2) / Unsharp mask / - Soft Light Layer / - Dodging and burning to bring out the rocks a bit more / - Noise Ninja in Photoshop to remove excess noise / - Horizon straighten and resulting crop

Green day gecko climbing a banana leaf in Hawaii. Four little feet sliding from leaf to leaf; they can stick so strongly to surfaces, so much so that geckos can hang upside-down from a single toe. Scientists have long been fascinated by gecko feet, and in year 2002, uncovered this remarkable secret: their precious toes adhere effortlessly to any surface through millions of nanoscale hairy structures that interact only slightly at the molecular level. It is the millions of these interactions that make their four feet capable of supporting the weight of a small child.
At the very north end of the Grampians the major ranges covered with trees give way to rocky bluffs, caves and some of the best rock climbing anywhere in Australia. Summery Day valley is the ‘entry level’ location here – it’s a series of beautiful cliffs in a horse shoe arena. Always a spot in the sun, always a spot in the shade, 30min walk up to a great camping / sunset spot. Just writing about it makes me long to be there.

Pendle Witch Country, in the Lancashire Pennines, is an area lying between (but also including) the north western edge of Bronte Country and the Ribble Valley, to the north and north east of which are Bowland, and the south western Yorkshire Dales respectively. The area is dominated by the dark brooding mass of Pendle Hill (shown above) and made famous (nay infamous) for its grim and fiendish association with the “Witches of Pendle”...
/ in the group “TABBY TIME” / (1 feature ) / Our Jasper has been fascinated by all the Christmas decorations . He absolutely loved the Christmas tree. He kept climbing it and I would have to get him down and he would climb up again. Once the tree was decorated I didn’t think we would have trouble but he must be climbing while I’m not looking because our poor tree branches are bending just a bit …. Jasper is a kitten that my daughter adopted from a pet rescue group that set up adoptions at the local pet store. She wasn’t even thinking about a cat for a pet until she saw Jasper , Such a darling little tiny kitten. He has grown and is becoming a beautiful cat, but he is also quite a character and is into everything. And he loves our Christmas tree.

Taken on Highway 16 North in the White Mountain National Forest, New Hampshire, USA on Saturday May 17, 2008. The view is looking towards Mt Washington, the highest peak on the Eastern seaboard. We took the Auto Drive Route up the mountain when we arrived there but it does not resemble this road in any way. It is treacherous, with shear drop offs on each side, just room enough for two cars, but they ask that people coming down the mountain yield to travellers going up. The top 4000 ft of the mountain was off limits due to weather conditions: snow and ice, but will open later in the season. /
