Our society’s addiction to oil and oil based products is threatening the human race. Corporate greed is compromising human rights and the environment. Things must change before it’s too late. This t-shirt is designed to quickly communicate the relationship between oil consumption and human suffering. The image of a hand gun and the use of the colour red represents blood and human suffering (so I would recommend a red t-shirt, but it still works on other colours). The fuel pump nozzle and use of black represents oil and petrol consumption. The link between the two items is the ‘trigger’, each of which is designed to be levered by the human finger.

The thunderstorm in this photograph was taken on the top-end wetlands late in the build up season…only weeks before this area was a dustbowl, yet weeks later it becomes a floodplain ! As the storm surged across the lush plains it dumped heavy rain and some shortlived reprieving cool winds. / / EOS A2, Fuji Velvia 50. / ©T.Middleton2007 —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— / / / / see more of my weather related photography by clicking on the preview image below. / / / /

This was one of the most awesome sunsets I have stood around for – way out in the interior. The tree was so arresting in silhouette and the light was pooling more and more intensely. It was actually raining slightly. / And I was getting nibbled at by turtles in the water as I clicked away over that magic hour.

Elephants think about world events often. They sometimes think that people might not have everything under control. We should listen to what elephants have to say. Maybe they have some good ideas. More elephants here

Inspired while watching yet another speech given this week by one of my favorite and personal heroes, Al Gore. Going Green does not mean using bio-fuels instead of crude oil. The earth is over-stressed by over-population, and every inch of agricultural land needs to be used to grow food… not fuel. Besides that, deriving energy through the process of combustion is a contributor to global climate change, irregardless of what is being burned. Going Green is using the energy already given to us by nature, by converting wind to energy, by converting waves to energy, by converting sunlight to energy, and by being aware, conscious, and conservative of the energy that we use in everything we do! In physics, one of the first general laws that you learn, is that energy can not be destroyed nor created, and that you can only change the form of that energy from one form to another form. Their is enough energy bestowed by nature to us on any single day, to power the entire globe’s energy needs for over a year. The technology already exists now to convert that energy into the form we use (mainly electrical), but the greedy multinational oil companies have enslaved us all by setting up our societies so they will not function without their oil, thus guarantying them their ever growing hoard of wealth. The ONLY answer to our ever-growing energy needs is to truly go green, using energy conversion methods that are passive and leave no footprint on the environment. Combustible energy must stop NOW, or our environment will quickly become more akin to that on Mars. We all have to suck it up, and hold the oil companies hostage instead, demanding that they use their hoard of wealth to facilitate the global change over to clean and passive forms of energy. This can be achieved more easily than you think! We hold the power… If you walk or ride your bike to work just one day a week, or remember to turn off that light bulb in the room that is unoccupied, or change that 100 watt bulb to a 40 watt bulb, or even decide what you want from your fridge before you open the door, or recycle that plastic jug instead of throwing it away, or a billion other small changes in your lifestyle that keep that next barrel of crude oil from being sucked from the ground. They may seem like changes too small to make any difference, but those small things done by everyone, will bring the oil companies to their knees in a very short time. We hold the power, but only if we all work together. Not far from where I reside in the Pacific Northwest, they are attempting to build one of the first large-scale wave energy plants, which uses the ever-present and natural motion of the waves to generate electricity. They are being delayed by those more concerned with the aesthetics of the plant than the clean energy it will produce. To them I say, the overall small footprint of the plant is much less an eye-sore than the desert devoid of all plant and animal life will be left with otherwise. These same people say the exact thing about the windmills and solar farms. This is not an issue of aesthetics, this is ultimately an issue about our survival. So if you’ve enjoyed my artwork here today, then you can reward me tonight by turning off your computer when your done, or turning out that light you aren’t using. Love & Peace, Grouchy ;)
