This is my favourite holday destination – Lord Howe Island, about a 2hr flight if i am remebering right, of the coast of NSW. I think its the remnents of a blown out volcano judgine from the very sharp high features. Black and white seems to heighten this effect, the orignal was a colour photo that was taken with a digital camera.
Well the flies are bad there’s no getting away from them / And I’m down below following that opal seam
I spent some time at White Cliffs opal field in the late 70’s and ended up writing this song about it and also put it out on CD with a heap of others
The White Cliffs was a major interpretive design project. At the beginning of the nineties a new purpose-built building was constructed directly on top of a Roman garrison site from the first century. A section of the archaeological remains were directly exposed within the new design. The main multi-media exhibition faciliy, which had three levels, was connected to the ajacent renovated Dover Museum which had remained in a dilapidated state since the second world war. / For me the commision to concept design and art direct the building of 30,000 square feet of multi-media immersive exhibitions was a fantastic and rewarding challenge. The White Cliff exhibition opened in 1992. / For information on the design and build of this project contact John.

Love taking pictures of these Cliffs, just wish I could do them justice in my pictures. It’s a challenge to get the right photographic conditions due to their location and weather factors. Any time I go, the weather is not ideal for pics , or else there is constant atmospheric haze surrounding them. I will keep trying to capture the one ;-) The Cliffs of Moher (Irish: Aillte an Mhothair, lit. cliffs of the ruin, also known as the Cliffs of Mohair) are located in the parish of Liscannor at the south-western edge of the Burren area near Doolin, which is located in County Clare, Ireland. The cliffs rise 120 meters (394 ft) above the Atlantic Ocean at Hag’s Head, and reach their maximum height of 214 meters (702 ft) just north of O’Brien’s Tower, eight kilometres away. The cliffs boast one of Ireland’s most spectacular views. On a clear day the Aran Islands are visible in Galway Bay, as are the valleys and hills of Connemara. O’Brien’s Tower is a round stone tower at the approximate midpoint of the cliffs. It was built by Sir Cornelius O’Brien, a descendant of Ireland’s High King Brian Boru, in 1835, as an observation tower for the hundreds of tourists that frequented the cliffs even at that date. From atop that watchtower, one can view the Aran Islands and Galway Bay, the Maum Turk Mountains and the Twelve Pins to the north in Connemara, and Loop Head to the south. Moher tower, located at Hag’s Head, is a square stone ruin which is believed[who?] to be the remains of a watchtower placed during Napoleon’s reign in Europe. For moherman, Cliffs of Moher one of the new 7 wonders of the Natural World ;-)

The eagles have returned to Eagle Cliff after many years of decline from extensive use of pesticides in the 1950’s. They soar out onto the thermals that rise from the valley floor. Across the notch is the Cannon Mt. ski area, and just south is the now-gone location of the state’s emblem, “The Old Man of the Mountain” a granite out-cropping that fell off a Cannon Mt. cliff face in the early 2000’s. The area is protected as Franconia Notch State Park. From my show at The Eureka Center, Ballarat entitled Deserted Works as part of BIFB 09 – the blurb reads something like this: / A continuing fascination with views from the flat, dry Australian outback. Of course, it isn’t necessarily either of these things – it can be inconveniently bumpy and wet at times. The desert gives us many awe-inspiring sights and quite often the beauty is just in the sheer “bigness” of the place. There is nothing like the night sky seen from the desert to give the sense of how insignificant we are and, by extension, how pointless our pettiness is. Presented as large panoramas, these images are from the outback of South Australia and Western NSW. / Available for purchase in Deserted Works Calender

This has to be one of my favorite rock formations at Dolly Sods. Was such a pretty clear day, unlike the one I went back to in the Fall.
