White cliffs
by MothEast Sussex seascape of beachy head. / This is probably the most photographed scene in east Sussex. A beautiful place to walk and there’s a great pub at the end. So you go do your photography before or things can get a little blurry after a pint or 8.

In Canyon De Chelly Az. These are the famous cliff dwellings that Ansel Adams photographed. When I visited that area of the southwest a couple rolls of film were overexposed, particularly the ones from this area. I liked this shot anyway however and have worked on it with photo shop. The southwest in daylight is harsh and part of what one remembers about the area.

Another in the Masters series. / This is the centre part of a long panoramic watercolour. By Thomas Bush Hardy, 1895. I’ve moved some of the boats to be closer together, as my version is a small painting, 10×7 inches, on rough Bockingford tinted cream paper, 140lb. I will be painting the full length seascape in the future.

My version of a Thomas Bush Hardy (1842-97). From an 1895 watercolour of Ramsgate Harbour. A panoramic shaped painting, 23” x 10”. / Hand-made, 140lb rough paper. Over 20 hours work. Multiple layers of semi-transparent and opaque watercolour, and white zinc gouache for highlights. Viewing in larger size is necessary.

This is the view overlooking this amazing glassed space at Scarborough Spa backwards the remains of Scarborough Castle, over looking it’s harbour. Location / St Margaret’s Bay, Kent, England August 2009: Taken 45 minutes before sunrise and facing away from where the sun rises from. The glow of red above the famous white cliffs are those from the docks at Dover which handles the cross channel ferries to France (one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world)

let us pray for the good men now raging war / against vicious tremendous old sea / under moonlit mile sparkle dust decoration and let us pray for the tattered old hands / wrinkled and shrivelled by time and by tears / weeping gently at the daily swell and let us pray that the mighty strata / safely points its layered mass west into / bitter chills and tower block waves and let us pray the callous sea claims not a life / unforeseen, unexpected, unheard / in the unkempt space beyond visible horizon and let us pray their return is as swift as their exit / bringing catch to make pockets fall heavy / and crowds of well-wishers to line harbour walls and let us pray that the efforts of trawlermen / are rightly commended on plate and on deck / and on lips served by the call of the sea —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- Location: Downpatrick Head, Co.
