Dawn at Garie Beach, Royal National Park just south of Sydney, Australia. A seagull very obligingly flew into shot as I was taking this. Can you spot the silhouetted fishermen? / I’m lucky enough to live in one of the most beautiful landscapes I’ve ever seen – it’s only a little national park (14,000 ha) but the variety of stuff to photograph is simply endlessly inspiring. Part of the Raging Stillness series this is a blend of 10 X 30 second exposures taken as part of a series of 110 sequential images during a particularly lovely night storm we had a little while ago. You’re looking at 5minutes of the storm at its height. What a treat this night was – getting some fantastic storms here. Taken at the Waterrun, Royal National Park just south of Sydney. The rainbow is from some wave spray and that’s a little waterfall off to the left. / This shot was taken about an hour before Poetry of Chaos. It was amazing watching the storm come in and the colours changing and the sea swell growing. One of the great privileges of living in this park is watching the same landscapes in a myriad of different moods depending on the weather and time of day. Taken at the Waterrun, Royal National Park, just south of Sydney at the same location as Poetry of Chaos and Falling Water Falling Light, but one month later. Really curious that at the same location in the park there were two rainbows in very similar positions but one month apart. I find strange coincidences like this happen a lot in the park – for example shooting storms off the cliffs over a couple of years I’ve found the lightning strikes are almost always in the same place for each storm. A fashion shoot in the Karroo, a beautiful semi-desert part of South Africa. The model was on top of a 100metre high cliff and I had to climb the opposite cliff face to get this shot. A really worthwhile effort..

Taken looking south to Wollongong from Providential Point, Royal National Park, just south of Sydney Australia. / This is my first attempt at a multi-exposure blend. This image is a combinations of 57 X 30sec exposures using the fantastic Startrails Photoshop Action that you can download free from this excellent site: / www.schursastrophotography.com/software/photoshop/startra… I was put on to this action by Dave Burrow whose amazing startrails image can be seen here: / http://www.redbubble.com/people/davidburrows/art/321722-3-startrails The brilliant thing about this PS action is that the longest exposure you need to take is 30sec and so it virtually eliminates the noise problem of conventional long exposure startrails. You can imagine how much noise this shot would have as a 30min exposure. / The straight lines are some of 9 planes that flew through these exposures over the half-hour I was taking them – amazingly consistent flight paths. It got so busy I had to delete some of the planetrails, hence the little gaps in the startrails.

Dawn at Garie Beach in Royal NP just south of Sydney Australia. / Being near an international airport is a bugger for night shots but it does tend to make the dawns just that much more spectacular. This is the vapour trail from a dawn takeoff. I like the way the sun looks anchored by its own light while the light from the vapour trail soars. / What a magic morning this was. Got a bunch of shots I was happy with and then after taking them I decided to wander over to the rock platform just next to the sun in this shot to watch the rest of the sunrise. There were about a dozen fishermen silhouetted against this sun with orange waves breaking over the rock platform in front of them. Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better two huge whales surfaced right in front of where I was sitting – about 100m offshore. Everyone stopped what they were doing and just watched their graceful rise and fall through the water, spouting their breath mist against the dawn. It was actually good to have the camera packed away and just to sit and watch.

I have always had a fascination with ships and the ocean. Detail and craftsmanship of these old wooden vessels is sensational. Whether they were pirates, fisherman, sailors or just adventurous men who sought out adventure on the high seas they always took pride in their vessels. . / . / Lisa C.
