... Queen Cleopatra of Egypt / History of Cleopatra Queen Cleopatra of Egypt is the most well known of all the ancient Egyptian queens. Cleopatra was born in Alexandria in 69 B.C. during the reign of the Ptolemy family to Ptolemy VII. Cleopatra appears to have been a popular name in the family, as her mother bore the name as well as an older sister, making the new daughter Cleopatra the Seventh, although she is rarely referred to as such. Cleopatra and her family were not Egyptian, but rather Macedonian, descended through a general of Alexander the Great. Cleopatra would become the first ruler of her family who could actually speak the Egyptian language….......................Cleopatra... ‘Happy New Year’

__________ / A4 size Medium Texture Artist Canvas Sheet (primed) – 330 GSM. ACRYLIC. / __________ / Cleopatra was the last in the line of her ancient pharaoh ancestors in ancient Egyptian times. The glorious reign of pharaohs came to an end with her death. She commited suicide by having a cobra snake bite her after she heard that Ceasar Octavius of the strong Roman Empire was near her palace. This way she did not suffer the humiliation of defeat by the enemy. / __________ / Image copyright: Mariaan Krog 2008 / __________ / Available to buy in all print sizes. cleopatra's brew - august writers' meeting

There was warm spiced wine….there was golden sunshine spilling onto the table…..and there was Chris White, surrounded by Red Bubble wenches. The Melbourne Writers’ Meetings have varied in size and atmosphere, from twenty vibrant revellers on the sun deck of the Northcote Social Club quaffing sauv blanc, to a dozen watching rain drip off the awning near the open fire of the Wesley Anne beer garden. Today’s festivities were cosy and relaxed, and all the more enjoyable for it. / / Chris was the only male and took it all in his stride, competing with my camera lense (his clearly won) and engaging in his usual battle of the wills with a fiercely camera shy LisaG. The only way I could get her to pose for me was to ply her with wine – an old technique, but a good one. We were blessed with the reappearance of two old school bubblers, Kristy Lee and JulieJulie, and the laughter was enough to shake the windowpanes. The theme was animals, and our menagerie for the day included dogs (Chris), butterflies & lions (Kristy), ladybirds (LisaG), horses (Erin Lyall), monkeys (Nicole Ryan) and as anyone who knows me could predict, I brought along serpents, with a few flicking cat tails for good measure. Over to the deck of the Social Club for dinner, downing chilled wine as the sunset threw such light onto Erin & her beret that conversation faltered as we all stopped to admire her. A strut down the street to CocoLoco, a divine bar specialising in hot chocolate so richly seductive that Kristy almost melted over the floor…..I don’t think the staff will forget our bubble posse in a hurry. Some pics….... And so another writers’ meeting draws to a close…..the last for winter. It just won’t be the same without the mulled wine.
