I took this picture on the steepest island of the world…La Palma (canarian islands). Although it’s the steepest island of the world it’s very rare that it’s snowy on top of the biggest vulcanic mountain. / It was a lucky week so I drove all the way up to the “Roche De Los Muchachos”>>> / (3000 metres high). Shortly before I reached the top a little cave caught my attention. / I went inside and discovered beautiful, thick icicles. A clearing storm just before sunset on the Napali Coast, captured from Kalalau Lookout in Kokee State Forest on the Hawaiian Island of Kauai. For me, the incredible light and views that can be seen at different times of the day from this vantage point are second to none in all of Hawaii. The only thing you need to do is be patient when you arrive, as this area is frequently fogged in and rainy. As an example, I waited almost 2 hours before the sky broke and I was able to capture this shot. For me it was worth the wait ! 3200 ISO is a brave new world for me. As a self confessed low ISO junkie, one who used Ektar 25 film whenever and wherever he could for many years because I wanted tight grain, the tighter the better, I would pull out all the stops I could to use that amazing ISO 25 film! For sure I’d never gone above ISO 1000 and then only to shoot indoor sporting events. Low ISO was(?) a hang-up for me! But I wanted to try astral photography and high ISO can get you there! However as we all know high ISO leads to increased noise which is something fairly new to me. You can use software and Photoshop plugins but I’ve been considering, one way to control noise would be to minimize or eliminate it by keeping the ISO as low as possible and that’s one way I‘m leaning. So in that regard it looks like a fast 50 prime is in order! It’s fun to be experimenting and learning, eh! This shot was taken this morning before work … I was up early and headed for the woods again, but seeing that I’ve finally figured out how to get to the Deer Sanctuary, I decided to go & have a look … ... and I was in luck!! / The light was golden, the air was hazy and dreamy from the night’s slumber … and the deer were visible from the fence !!! :)) What a delight! The sanctuary is not actually accessible, so I wandered along the fence, looking for good vantage points, trying hard to get clear shots through the tight mesh fence! Walk 4 tells you a bit more about the area ... and to think that an hour and a half after taking this shot I was sat at my desk in the square mile of London, processing applications for financial failure insurance … 29 September 2009 / EOS 450D, f/5.6 @ 135 mm, 1/30, ISO 100
