    The Short-Clawed Otter (Aonyx cinerea), also known as the Oriental Small Claw Otter, is currently listed as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). This small mammal is the smallest of the otters, but, unfortunately, they remain somewhat of a mystery because of lack of research and study. / As its name suggests, the Short-Clawed Otter has claws that are much smaller than other otters’. Also unlike other otters, their paws are almost like hands, very slightly webbed

  • It saddens me when I come to the end of a series I have enjoyed compiling but unfortunately this is the thirteenth and the last one in my London Zoo series which I hope you have enjoyed.   • Early morning shoot at Wainuiomata Beach, the end of the world, not quite but the next stop is the south pole, wind that will slice your ears off and sand/gravel that will sand bast your car, not a place to swim. image taken on a Nikon D700 with a Tamron 17-35mm lens.   • The Fulford Village Fair (York) is held on August Bank Holiday Monday every year with stalls, games, childrens’ & parents’ races, tug of war, mini steam engine rides, sometimes a tank and always a fire engine. / In the Exhibition Hall you will find giant carrots, perfect onions, red roses, paintings, cakes, bread, embroidery, handicrafts and photographs.   • The Black King-Rook’s Pawn (The Spawn) / Artist: Simon Sherry / Biography: Danny You will find them stationed around the pens of the monolith and they are used to maintain the health and well being of the King’s favourite beast. Crab-like creatures, they are used during times of inactivity as cleaning device for the Monolith, keeping it free of fleas and other parasites. Initially able to launch a longer-range assault by hurling highly-volatile Monolith dung from their excretion glands, their effectiveness is soon reduced to that of foot soldiers and cannon fodder during battle. /
