This and last year, my routine is to get a new painting started approximately every second or third week. So I can take it to Hazelhurst where Melissa can then advise me to put more green on the skin (and adjust the proportions). / / Roughly on the weekends I start to think about what I’d like to paint next. It’s like having a store-room or chamber, in the back of my head where certain subjects are sitting, leaning, standing, gathering dust, waiting to be picked. / Somewhere I read about favourite illustrations. / It could easily have been on RedBubble (Information overload!) It might have been BookCrossing! / My favourite illustration of all is Remi, standing outside the courthouse, after Vitalis has been put in gaol. (It’s by G. van Raemdonck, in the 1940 edition of the Dutch Version of Sans Famille, by Hector Malot .) / / So, now the urge to copy that illustration and ‘dress’ Remi in the colours that I think are appropriate, has surfaced and I shall be taking this ‘work’, to work on, in about an hour, to Hazelhurst. / Having the painting will, for me combine several pleasant memories. / I.e., my mother reading that book to me several times, when I was far too young – so she first left out all the very sad bits – and, in 2005, walking along the Seine, with my Sydney-born daughter, asking the people, minding the second-hand book stalls there, if they had the book, in its original French. / The fun of watching my daughter communicate with these interesting people, so easily, in French and particularly the exchange with the book-seller who advised against buying it because, as a boy, he’d seen the black and white film (I saw that here many years ago, on Sydney t.v., too!) / He said my daughter would cry too, if she read it. / But she did buy it. Not only that but also the second book, which I’d forgotten about. / Several of the booksellers pointed to a street, across the Seine to where Hector Malot used to live. / My other connection with the book, is memories of Mr John Fredericks, our French Teacher, at Maroubra Bay High School (Heartbreak High), unkindly known as’Freddy the Frog by the students, mentioning the book to another Dutch-born boy and me. / Hans and I were pleased about that because our generation (roughly baby-boomers) grew up with that book, in the Netherlands, the way English reading boys grew up with Biggles, Treasure Island, Rip Van Winkle, Oliver Twist, ....... I need to get ready….... .......5 hours later…... Back home again.

Id really appreciate your help and input and suggestions on a video Ive created and uploaded to you tube. / Ive done these videos before, and due to redoing websites, other websites going out of business, a lot got lost. most were made with some OLD shots of mine, before i really started taking photography seriously (actually a woman inspired me to create them about 7years ago), now I am using my latest shots for the new vids. / anyhow, im still using the same music by Gary Remal Malkin (just alittle info about him on the website) that he created just for the Great Smoky Mountains. I call the cd, my mountain tape (first time I bought it was as cassette) After spending sometime trying to locate him, I finally did a few years ago, I was able to get his permission to use his music with my photography (Cool huh?) :) / Anyhow..this video is about 7min long, you will see some shots I have used here on Redbubble and some shots that havent made it here…yet. / I’d really would appreciate your input, and I think this will help one relax after a tough day. I will gradually be re-doing all my vids to gradually put on my personal website again, and just add them to You-Tube for easier uploading. I have given this cd out to a lot of people and turned a lot of people on to it. His cd is titled The Music of the Great Smoky Mountains / A beautiful classical cd, dont know of a person yet that doesnt love it. Wow Im a huge antique car lover and I gotta say this is a true beauty! / For those that don’t know it’s a 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa and it’s $12.1 million Dollars. Now the only ppl i saw buying this little charmer were Donald Trump, Sir Alan Sugar, Duncan Bannatyne, Gordon Ramsey, and Jay Leno. Unfortunately the article doesnt say who bought it this time, but it was owned prior by U.S. Actor James Coburn (who incidently got 10.9 million for it last year.) Article said: It sold at auction when it fetched an eye-popping $12.1 million on Sunday, May 17, at an event on the grounds of the Ferrari factory in Maranello, Italy. The Testa Rossa was one of just 22 produced from 1957 to 1958, and the Scaglietti design is marked by prominent pontoon fenders. The cars also were successful racers, winning 10 of the 19 international races they entered from 1958 to 1961. The car sold Sunday wears chassis No. 0714TR, and it finished fourth at the Buenos Aires 1,000-kilometer race in 1958 — its debut in competition. The car was then sold to an American collector, who raced it extensively in SCCA events. The Testa Rossa, which translates to “red head” in Italian, beat the price set by another Ferrari, the 1961 250 GT SWB California Spider. The Testa Rossa was sold at an auction run by RM Auctions and Sotheby’s, called the Leggenda e Passione. / /
