  • actually not really a bell out of hell…. description: / “High above the Inn Valley, the community-of-regions bell of the alpine lands of Bavaria, Tyrol and South Tyrol rings out as a reminder of peace and good neighbourly relations. At the same time, it is a memorial to the 25 years of cross-border collaboration of the “ARGE ALP Association” countries. The Peace Bell on the outermost western hill of the village of M”sern is an imposing sight. It stands all by itself in the middle of spectacular alpine scenery, in a spot affording a superb, far-reaching view up the Inn Valley of Tyrol. The Peace Bell is the largest bell in Tyrol. It is eight feet 3 inches high and eight feet four inches in diameter. Its belfry has to support more than 10 tons of cast bronze, and withstand the dynamic extremes of the bell’s vibrations as well. The clapper alone weighs over half a ton”.

  • This is scanned from a glass plate/slide taken by my dad sometime around 1945/46. I’ve worked it a bit in Photoshop but only the basic stuff. I have a whole box full of his old glass plates and they are great fun to look through – LOL, there’s even one of me as a curly 3 year old in a pedal car!!

  • Typical of some of the earliest river/stream crossings used on Dartmoor this clapper bridge is one of the few that remain in good order, although I believe the even this one has collapsed in recent times. This is just about the first colour slide I ever took and it must have been around 1949. The lady at the very back (not actually on the bridge) is my mother who had just celebrated her 45th birthday. When she died 9 years ago she was about to celebrate her 95th!! This is about as large as I can get this unfortunately.

  • This doorway in Florence, Italy, with its patina wood offers a classic knocker for all those who choose to enter.

  • I said already that flamenco is a rivalry of some women for love of the man performed in singing and dance. May be somebody will be disagree with me but it’s exactly what I felt during that performance and especially during it’s dancing part… Many people know the story of Carmen, a Spanish gypsy girl from the opera by French composer Georges Bizet. Since the 1880s it has been one of the world’s most performed operas and a staple of the operatic repertoire. Carmen appears as number four on Opera America’s list of the 20 most-performed operas in North America… Someone red the novel by Prosper Mérimée who originally wrote this story, told him before by the Countess of Montijo during his visit to Spain in 1830. I’m not going to tell here that novel and only want to say that Merimee described Carmen as a gorgeous gypsy girl full of love and passion, loving freedom in all and never lost her pride even in front of death. He also described Carmen as a great dancer… When I’ve been on Flamenco show in Tablao Albyzin, I payed attention on beautiful woman who was at that time among “clappers”. I had no idea, what’s her name… Later I saw her personal dance and it was the best among others. Finally she was the “winner” in love-rivalry and performed her dance with a man as her prize… When she performed her last dance I saw explosion of passion and… I saw Carmen, real Carmen…
