Taken looking south to Wollongong from Providential Point, Royal National Park, just south of Sydney Australia. / This is my first attempt at a multi-exposure blend. This image is a combinations of 57 X 30sec exposures using the fantastic Startrails Photoshop Action that you can download free from this excellent site: / www.schursastrophotography.com/software/photoshop/startra… I was put on to this action by Dave Burrow whose amazing startrails image can be seen here: / http://www.redbubble.com/people/davidburrows/art/321722-3-startrails The brilliant thing about this PS action is that the longest exposure you need to take is 30sec and so it virtually eliminates the noise problem of conventional long exposure startrails. You can imagine how much noise this shot would have as a 30min exposure. / The straight lines are some of 9 planes that flew through these exposures over the half-hour I was taking them – amazingly consistent flight paths. It got so busy I had to delete some of the planetrails, hence the little gaps in the startrails.

The Erasmusbrug (“Erasmus Bridge”) is a cable stayed bridge across the Nieuwe Maas river, linking the northern and southern halves of the city of Rotterdam, Netherlands. / The Erasmusbrug was designed by Ben van Berkel and completed in 1996. The 808 metre long bridge has a 139 metre-high asymmetrical pylon, earning the bridge its nickname of “The Swan”. The southern span of the bridge has a 89 metre long bascule bridge for ships that cannot pass under the bridge. The bascule bridge is the largest and heaviest in West Europe and has the largest panel of its type in the world. The bridge was officially opened by Queen Beatrix on September 6, 1996, having cost 165 million Dutch guilders (about 75 million euros) to construct. Shortly after the bridge opened to traffic in October 1996, it was discovered the bridge would swing under particularly strong wind conditions. To reduce the trembling, stronger shock dampers were installed. The bridge was featured in the 1998 Jackie Chan film Who Am I? In 2005 several planes flew underneath the bridge as part of the “Red Bull Air Race”. In 2005, the bridge served as the backdrop for a performance by Dj Tiësto titled “Tiësto @ The Bridge, Rotterdam”. I shot this deep into a winter dusk looking south to Wollongong from the Curracurrang in Royal NP. I love that moment when the eye can only see night but the camera on long exposure picks up the residual colours of sunset and twilight.. Another from the archives. It’s so much fun going over shots you took a couple of years ago and have forgotten. So many magic memories come alive. Canon 30D / Tv: 82 seconds / Av: f/4.0 / ISO: 200
