This collection of Urban Landscapes is drawn from a larger body of work called Darkscapes. They are moody evocative invitations into mystery and imagination taken from the ordinary things that make up the fabric of city life. Beauty is all around us if only we take the time to notice it. We all look but maybe we don’t all see. This collection of images is a way for me to share what I see with others. Some years back I was short listed for a Sculpture commission at the new Green Square Railway station. I didn’t in the end win the commission but I did get to walk up the tunnels before any trains traveled though the station. This is one of the many photo’s I took. This is a companion image to the Urban Landscape#28 taken underneath Green Square station a couple of years ago before the trains started to use the lines. Walking up these tracks was a truly amazing experience.

Sorry for not posting many shots over the past few weeks and not leaving any replies. I have been really busy with work and work around the house. I can tell you the past few days have been the worst choice to do some work around the Garden. Anyway here are two HDR – Sunrise shots from a few weeks ago taken from Victoria Road near the old White Bay Power Station. I hope you like it. Taken on a ship as it left Sydney Harbour; this is just to the right of the Harbour Bridge as you leave. This photo was taken on a rather glum day, but the Sun appeared just as we were leaving, giving pretty much everything an orange tint.

I adore Sydney at night. This was me tripod-less one night at Circular Quay… I’m still tripod-less to this day. Long exposures kill me. Hehehe.

Taken looking south to Wollongong from Providential Point, Royal National Park, just south of Sydney Australia. / This is my first attempt at a multi-exposure blend. This image is a combinations of 57 X 30sec exposures using the fantastic Startrails Photoshop Action that you can download free from this excellent site: / www.schursastrophotography.com/software/photoshop/startra… I was put on to this action by Dave Burrow whose amazing startrails image can be seen here: / http://www.redbubble.com/people/davidburrows/art/321722-3-startrails The brilliant thing about this PS action is that the longest exposure you need to take is 30sec and so it virtually eliminates the noise problem of conventional long exposure startrails. You can imagine how much noise this shot would have as a 30min exposure. / The straight lines are some of 9 planes that flew through these exposures over the half-hour I was taking them – amazingly consistent flight paths. It got so busy I had to delete some of the planetrails, hence the little gaps in the startrails.

MUCH BETTER VIEWED LARGER / 190 Comments,125 Favourites, 2956 Views / Sydney is great for sunrises, it quite often receives spectacular sunrises as it greets the sunrises that appear from the east. This shot shows the city skyline as seen from North Sydney CBD on the northern shore of Sydney Harbour, in the foreground is Lavender Bay. Technique: HDR , 5 Bracketted images processed with Photomatix Pro with avery slight adjustment (sharpening & contrast) in Capture NX. Equipment: Nikon D300 , Nikon 18-200mm lens No filters or colour adjustment 1) RED SKY AT NIGHT… means that as the sun sets in the west, if it has a red hue or color to it, then the moisture was further west of their location. Thus SAILORS DELIGHT. A beautiful sunset. 2) RED SKY IN MORN…means that as the sunlight from the rising sun passes through moisture, it too will be red. This means that with the rotation of the earth, this will bring this moisture (and possible storm) right on top of them and it is only a few hours away. SO SAILORS TAKE WARN.” / I hope this bit of weather science helps.

When I left Home It Didn’t Look Like Rain I headed for Mrs. Macquarie’s Chair hoping for a good sunset. It started out that way too, but when I turned my camera onto the city to pick up some bright reflections off the office tower windows I noticed a very big, very wet, very dirty dishcloth hanging less than nonchalantly over the city skyline. / Oops. A WIDE SHOT BEST VIEWED LARGER This shot was taken from the 10th floor of a office building in North Sydney dawn is just breaking, it where i sit for breakfast. Yes I know it’s hard but somebody has to do it ! The view over Lavender Bay features Luna Park nestling at the foot of the Sydney Harbour Bridge it expands to the Sydney Skyline to the upper harbour with Mc Mahons Point on the northern shore and Sydney tower in the distance.
