I’ll always remember these types of scenes when I look back on Egypt. I don’t remember a skyline that was not pierced by one or many minarets. The morning call for prayer (more than any other of the day as I was quite asleep) seemed to boom from these places. And the life of every city or village revolved around them. From the minaret, to the bright Mediterranean colors and the rough textures, this was Egypt for me. This one happens to be on Elephantine Island at Aswan.

there’s always one thing that you can count on, one person, one song to cheer you up or just remind you that life is worth it. even if you feel like you’re sitting shivering in the bottom of a stone well that is slowly filling with freezing cold water, and it’s pitch black outside, there is something that can spark that fire back into you; perhaps a single twinkling star or the sound of the wind being tunneled down to you carrying the scent of the wet leaves. take joy in that. be grateful that you’re being included in something so marvelously grand even if you can’t see the way out. just wait til tomorrow. it’ll always get better. / / manhattan skyline from astoria, queens at sunset / it had been gross and rainy and cloudy all day, enough to start little arguments over cracks in the sidewalk, but on the way home at the end of the day, being able to look at the sun shoving the ominous puffs aside was enough / / / / i’m in a good place :)
