Chefchaouen is a city in northwest Morocco. It is the chief town of the province of the same name. Chefchaouen is situated in the Rif Mountains, just inland from Tangier and Tetouan. The city was founded in 1471, as a small fortress which still exists to this day, by Moorish exiles from Spain to fight the Portuguese invasions of northern Morocco. It was known as one of the main concentrations of Moriscos and Jews who sought refuge in this mountainous city after the Spanish Reconquista in medieval times. In 1920, the Spanish seized Chefchaouen to form part of Spanish Morocco. They returned the city after the independence of Morocco in 1956. The name ‘Chefchaouen’ refers to the shapes of the mountain tops that tower over the town, that look like the two horns (chaoua) of a goat. It literally means “look at the horns”. The blue-rinsed houses and buildings, are a tradition that comes from the town’s former Jewish population. Two buildings in Market St, Melbourne. One old, the other newer. I liked the contrast between the two and the sun trying to peek through. I hope you like it :) /

Black and white is the only treatment on this photo taken early in the morning. The black ray above the Eiffel tower is a natural effect.

Companion image to City Sunrise “I’ve always been attracted to the hinterland of reality.. that place close to abstraction. In this case any sense of reality is a construct.. it is realistic in the sense that aerials and masts etc are recognisable urban features but in another sense they are nothing more than scratches and scribbles that approximate to the actual objects. There is no actual place where this vista exists… although I have often seen bits of this pictures. This is the visual landscape I enjoy operating in.. recognisable to an extent but also almost entirely imagined. Its a place but not a place.. it has forms but not real forms… but you can probably say exactly the same of every work of art. Some people think that aiming at realism is somehow truer to the subject but every photographer knows that even the most realistic depictions can be altered and made super realistic or less realistic.” This is one of a series of pictures based on the City Sunrise pastel sketch. FULL VIEW PLEASE * / An early morning shot of the City of Perth. Was disappointed yesterday I was unable to get any photos of the sunset in Perth, as it was quite amazing . / So I decided to get up at 4am this morning and take some photos. I was glad I did, as the sunrise was just about as good as the sunset last night. This shot was of the city of Perth in Western Australia taken from Kings Park at roughly 4:30 am . Its 6 photos stitched together in PhotoShop. This is my second attempt at a panorama photo, turned out a lot better then my first attempt . If any one knows of a better program for making panoramas could you please let me know, as PhotoShop isn’t the best for stitching the images together. I wanted to catch the city light and sunset at together with this shot and was happy with the result. I have also a night shot of just the lights which I will upload later on.
