Hindus are cremated here, and their ashes are returned to the holy river, believed to end the cycle of birth and rebirth. / Varanasi is the most Indian of Indian cities.

  • Boredom can make you come up with some strange things! :)

  • The Arno is a river in region of Tuscany, Italy, that crosses all the region from Mount Falterona (near the city of Arezzo, in Casentino area), to Pisa where it enters Tyrrhenian Sea. It is the biggest river in the region. It crosses Florence too, where it passes below the Ponte Vecchio. The river flooded the city regularly in historical times, the last occasion being the famous flood of 1966. While classified as a river, the Arno is sometimes described as having a torrent-like behaviour, because it can easily go from almost dry to near-flood in a few days. New dams built upstream of Florence have greatly alleviated the problem in the last years. /

  • The spiral staircase in City Hall, home of the Mayor of London, by the River Thames, London. Access was granted due to a number of private buildings being opened to the public over the weekend as part of London Open House, so I took full advantage and managed to take some shots without being frisked by an enormous security guard! See more of my work at Dan Biggins Photography.

  • Another quick capture tonight, from work to the tube, just as the night was falling around 5:30pm. These are the lights on the South Bank of the river Thames, close to Waterloo bridge. To me, the varying size of the lights on the picture and the slight curve of the layout, like just like a string of pearls.
