UK Born Jan Johnston also known as “The First Lady Of Trance” one of the most recognizable voices in dance music today. She’s worked with artists such as BT, Tiesto, Paul Van Dyk, Paul Oakenfold, and the list goes on. This shoot was done on request as I’ve always absolutely loved her music and really wanted to shoot a portrait of her. Shot on location in Melbourne it was a heavily windy day as you can see by her hair. I put a heavy focus on getting the angles exactly right… maybe even too much as I only had this one frame out of about 100. I was extremely grateful to get this image though…

Recently we did a test shoot for two really funny and crazy guys who also happen to make music together, Jase and Tom after their manager aeris saw my stuff on RedBubble and decided I am shit hot at what I do. (I’m working on the modesty bit, I swear.) Anyway they really really didn’t want to do a photo shoot in a smelly, public, and damp mens’ toilet so naturally I nagged at them until they relented. Then the first thing their manager said upon viewing this image was “That one’s for RedBubble!” So here it is.

A traffic warning sign is a type of traffic sign that indicates a hazard ahead on the road.
I was in New York recently on business and managed to find a little time to wander around. I walked up to Rockefeller Center and took some shots. Unfortunately I didn’t have a tripod so the night shots were a little difficult, but I did manage to get this one of Radio City Music Hall. I really like the Deco feeling of this shot. I wish there had been just a bit more steam or fog. The shot was originally in color, and while the signage looked nice I think the black & white makes a better image. I did some minor dodging and burning to darken some of the darker areas a little more and lighten some of the lighter areas. I added a platinum tint and some film grain. Not only is it recognisable, it has come to represent ‘Australia’. Although only having been open since 1973, it is as representative of Australia as the pyramids are of Egypt and the Colosseum of Rome. The Opera House is situated on Bennelong Point, which reaches out into the harbour. The skyline of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the blue water of the harbour and the Sydney Opera House, viewed from a ferry or from the air, is dramatic and unforgettable. Ironic, perhaps, that this Australian icon – the Opera House with a roof evocative of a ship at full sail – was designed by renowned Danish architect – Jorn Utzon. In the late 1950s the New South Wales (NSW) Government established an appeal fund to finance the construction of the Sydney Opera House, and conducted a competition for its design. Utzon’s design was chosen. The irony was that his design was, arguably, beyond the capabilities of engineering of the time. Utzon spent a couple of years reworking the design and it was 1961 before he had solved the problem of how to build the distinguishing feature – the ‘sails’ of the roof. The venture experienced cost blow-outs and there were occasions when the NSW Government was tempted to call a halt. In 1966 the situation – with arguments about cost and the interior design, and the Government withholding progress payments – reached crisis point and Jorn Utzon resigned from the project. The building was eventually completed by others in 1973. After more than 30 years, the Sydney Opera House has its first interior designed by Utzon. The Utzon Room, a transformed reception hall that brings to life Jorn Utzon’s original vision for his masterpiece, was officially opened on September 16 2004. Born in Buffalo, NY I moved away years ago and now have returned to the area (Canada) for our first full summer. What I miss most in our area of Florida where we live the rest of the time is historical architecture only to find that Buffalo was tearing down a gem of an auditorium where before the Sabres took over, I saw Jimi Hendrix in 1969. After that lots of hockey there too. Leica V Lux1 Queen – Another One Bites The Dust This is our beautiful City Hall over-looking the rubble of a WPA (public works in the 1930’s) of the Aud.
