  • Paranoia
    by Vinko

    US$27.93

My entry for the London Calling challenge. I found this difficult as I’ve never been to London to get a real ‘feel’ for the place, but here’s my two-cents worth: I have given a big nod towards graffiti/street art with the general style of the piece (line work, spray marks and drips) the London skyline gets a look in I couldn’t resist the CCTV camera robot (paranoid android?) with London having over 100 000 cameras throughout the city and finally I’ve included a large rain cloud in reference to the grey, overcast and generally miserable weather. I can’t decide on a colour – according to the challenge we should have one colour option for the shirt – so feel free to let me know what colour you think works best :) Detail: /

A candid street photography shot taken in East London 2007

  • As I enjoyed my cappocino and fiddled with my Bronica Zenza 6×6 (80mm f2.8) camera, I noticed this interesting character. The man sat there almost motionless. I motioned to him if it was ok for me to take the photo and he seemed to agree. I had to guess the exposure as I didn’t have my light metre out of my bag. The exposure came out fine (F2.8, 1/60th) and the focus is not bad considering the medium format and how clumsy the camera is in street photography. I processed the negative myself and scanned the image in on a Nikon film scanner. I have left the edge of the negative as it frames the image well and it appeals to my purist tendacies. This is one of my fravorite examples of my documentary work, it makes me think of how times have changed and how society changes and some people feel they can’t keep up.

  • This Is London
    by berndt2

    US$3.42–US$91.20

A shamelessly cliche’d image, perhaps. But I was rather pleased with what I was able to do by cropping a regular photograph into a panorama, increasing levels to convert to silhouette, converting to black’n’white, and then restoring colour to the Union Jack and “returning” the Big Ben face(s) by lightening them in a separate layer. All from a single (rather boring and underexposed) shot!
