As you can see the clouds herald what is to come, the buildings are lit by pre storm light combined with the last rays of day light. The storm that followed was quite severe with 868 recorded lightning strikes, just have to love the clouds and light. Equipment used Nikon D300 and Nikon 18 – 200mm lens. /

The Holy City of Varanasi on the Ganges River, Uttar Pradesh, India. / Varanasi is one of the oldest living cities in the world. / Towards the middle of the picture, you can see the smoke and flames of the funeral pyres. Hindus are cremated here, and their ashes are returned to the holy river, believed to end the cycle of birth and rebirth. / Varanasi is the most Indian of Indian cities.

Had to travel to Adelaide for work, was trapped inside all day, though managed to escape for about 30 minutes but being in the city this is as close to seeing the sunset as I got.

Taken looking south to Wollongong from Providential Point, Royal National Park, just south of Sydney Australia. / This is my first attempt at a multi-exposure blend. This image is a combinations of 57 X 30sec exposures using the fantastic Startrails Photoshop Action that you can download free from this excellent site: / www.schursastrophotography.com/software/photoshop/startra… I was put on to this action by Dave Burrow whose amazing startrails image can be seen here: / http://www.redbubble.com/people/davidburrows/art/321722-3-startrails The brilliant thing about this PS action is that the longest exposure you need to take is 30sec and so it virtually eliminates the noise problem of conventional long exposure startrails. You can imagine how much noise this shot would have as a 30min exposure. / The straight lines are some of 9 planes that flew through these exposures over the half-hour I was taking them – amazingly consistent flight paths. It got so busy I had to delete some of the planetrails, hence the little gaps in the startrails.

*BEST VIEWED LARGER Berrys Bay is located on the Northern shore of Sydney Harbour . The harbour has many bays and tributaries. Berrys Bay /Balls Head Reserve can be reached by train from the city, you alight at Waverton Railway Station. The former BP Berry’s Bay bulk fuel storage and distribution terminal is located on the cliffs and foreshore area of Balls Head/Waverton Peninsula approximately 1.6 km northwest of the Sydney CBD. The site was operated by BP Australia as a fuel storage and distribution facility from the early 1920s. BP’s operations ceased in 1993 and the tanks were demolished in the mid 1990s. Premier Bob Carr announced in 1997 that this site, together with the Coal Loader and Caltex Sites on the other side of the peninsula would be preserved as Public Open Space It now has been returned to the public, as part of Sydney Harbour National Park, as you can see it is a magical site with wonderful panoramic views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge , Sydney Opera House (you can see under the bridge) the Sydney Skyline. Thank god governments make some good decisions returning open spaces to the people not the Developers. And yes England did send convicts to Australia for punishment Equipment used : Nikon D300, Nikon 18-200mm lens, no filters and processed using Photomatix My continuing journey into HDR continues !

BETTER VIEWED LARGER Millsons Point is the northern side of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and offers panoramic views of the city, you can get to it by bus, car, train , but the most pleasurable is a short ferry trip from the Sydney CBD from the ferry terminus of Circular Quay. The bridge is celebrating its aniversary , being built in the 30’s it does show some indications of art deco in it’s fittings. They say that they paint the Sydney Harbour Bridge and by the time they finish it’s time to start again . You can see it’s size dwarfing the structures around it with this shoot of the Northern Pylons. This shot taken at dusk with a 18-200 mm lens and the Nikon D300 Camera which is magic. Three bracketted photos were processed in Photomatix HDR, with a little sharpening in Capture NX

Photo featuring a lovely dusk sky hanging over the Chicago skyline. This windy city picture was taken from famous Navy Pier and affords a dreamy view of the city and the reflecting lights in the waters of Lake Michigan.

BETTER VIEWED LARGER This shot was taken from the Point of Blues Point on the north shore of Sydney Harbour at sunset. It is the result of 5 bracketted exposures , using my Nikon D300. No filters were used and the red clouds are the natural result of a sunset and the dynamic range of the HDR process. Lens used is a Sigma 10-20mm Blues Point can be reached conveniently via ferry from the Sydney CBD and offers panoramic views of the Sydney skyline and of course the Sydney Opera House and Bridge.
