This is a very deep one, thoughtful…sad…hopeful. Would the name of the picture and seeing this tell you what happend there? Remember the time when the white man ran over the entire land, killing native americans, raping their daughters and slaughtered them like cattle. But this picture tries to capture the hope aspect of it. The girl steps out of a burning village into a new civilization (marble stairs) and watches her steps, still shy and fearing what’s ahead. You can also project the message of the picture into the here and now. How? I leave this up to you, it’s in the eye of the beholder I think ;) Hope you enjoy, it’s a personal message.

This was inspired by a Simon & Garfunkle song, Punky’s Dilemma. A very amusing song, I think. :) Just for general information, I didn’t draw/create the jam jar. I don’t remember where I got it, though. :( If anyone knows the origin of it, I’ll be happy to give them credit. :)

My father-in-law is nearly 81, and holding on to his way of living, taking care of his appartment, fending for himself, and looking after his ailing girlfriend as well. Walking to her appartment everyday to help her with the daily chores, to do the necessary errands, and to make sure that she takes her medication properly. Walking back to his place in the evening, doing his own housework, laundry, sweeping and shoveling, choosing to maintain two households instead of moving in with his girlfriend, holding on dearly to his independance. Stubbornly holding on to his dignity, refusing to use the cane that could help him when he gets the occasional bout of dizziness. Choosing to do all this hard work instead of going to a retirement home, holding on fiercely to his pride and autonomy. Taking care of his son and grandsons, always making sure that they are well and happy, that they have everything they need. Holding on lovingly to his fathership. Going on through life, with the constant pain in his joints, the weight of all those years pressing down on his shoulders and on his heart, just holding on… Focal length 55mm / ISO-200 / Aperture f/5,6 / Shutter 1/13 sec.
