‘Iliki’ Spirit of Aloha is a mixed media production on canvas textured paper using ink, pastel, acrylic and charcoal. My darling ‘Illiki’ was inspired by James Michener’s novel ‘Hawaii’ and the beautiful young hawaiian girl who is one of the charming characters early on in the story. I was completely swept away during the reading of this incredible novel, highly recommended reading :D

Completed in 2004, age 17 Been awhile since I have uploaded an artwork.. I have several drawings and paintings from highschool, but I just haven’t had much time for scanning; or in this case as it is a very large painting (40” x 30”), photographing and skewing in photoshop… This is a slightly cropped version of the original, due to the limits of my camera. My original signature got cropped out so I had to insert a new one in photoshop; in the original it is not actually located there. The two subjects are posed in similar positions, each having a dark, circular central focus., Both images have lines above and surrounding the centres, which draw attention towards the centres. The vertical composition help strenghten the feeling of height given by the vertical lines. Both subjects are organic, however one, the eye, has straight lines and geometrical shapes, while the rose has curvy lines and organic shapes. In the eye, the centre is literally dark, while in the flower the darkness is created by shadows. I adore Sydney at night. This was me tripod-less one night at Circular Quay… I’m still tripod-less to this day. Long exposures kill me. Hehehe.

Dun Troddan and Dun Telve. Both the Brochs are twin-walled circular structures with a single doorway; off to the side of the doorway is a short passage between the walls which may have housed a guard or watchdog. Once within the inner enclosure, there is also an inner entrance leading to other passages between the curtain walls, and parts of the stairways still survive which gave access to upper levels. / The Brochs stood around 10 metres high (and both approach this height today in places). There are remains of wooden post holes at various points in the structure, and it is thought that the inner circular courtyard may have been roofed, giving comfortable living accommodation during times of attack; much more pleasant that the passageways in the curtain walls. The fine state of repair of the Brochs, acheived despite a complete lack of mortar, is a testimony to the skill of their builders.

The most famous ship in the world, Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth 2, moored in Sydney’s Circular Quay. To give her well-to-do passengers something to look at as they dined on their spatchcock entrées and awaited her departure, it was arranged to have the Sydney Opera House positioned just across the Quay. In case you’re wondering how this image would look full size, here’s a 100% crop from a section of the image:

This is the gasometer reflected in a flooded area after some very heavy rainfall in Teneriffe, Brisbane, Qld. Australia. / The dude who kicked me out while I was taking this shot said they are about to dismantle it, clean it up then reassemble it and build a ten storey apartment block inside it. At least they’re not going to get rid of it completely.
