The first competition was completed in the Everyday Women’s group. I am proud to share with you the following:. For First Place in the writing competition is My Mother by amarica. Second place is Women and Children by tkrosevear, and in third place is Circle of Lifeā¦to live again by Judi Taylor. WOW! Congratulations to the first and second place winners Amarica and Tkroseavear for their winning pieces. It is quite exciting to me to have a written piece of mine recoginized. I orginally joined Redbubble to give my writing some exposure. It was my desire to get constructive feedback regarding my writing content and style. There was also the hope of meeting others who had the same interest in writing that I do. Both of these things have happened. The process of learning never ends for me and it is within this process that Redbubble shines! My appeciation for your attention and passion for the written word is near overwhelming. I hope I can continue to improve my writing and share with you something that has given me much satisfaction and enjoyment. “A writer writes … an Author gets read. I want to be an AUTHOR!” Thank you for helping me to make a difference … in my life and yours. —Judi / P.S. The third winning pieces will be features at Women’s Solutions Hope you come by and take at look at this wonderful site.

How to be part of the RB Drawing Day blog circle
by Natalie Perkins*Hey! Do you author an art or design blog? Wanna get…
Hey! Do you author an art or design blog? Wanna get some hits? / If you answered YES! it probably means you’re a total art geek and no one loves you. I mean, err, people would totally love you if only they could find you in the blogiverse! A couple of weeks ago I proposed a community blogging exercise in conjunction with Drawing Day, where a whole heap of Red Bubble bloggers get together and blog the bollocks out of DD08. How we can help drive traffic towards each other, and towards our favourite RB artists is by using the power of the hyperlink. Step 1: / Let me know you want to get involved – leave me a comment or bubblemail me your blog, and its RSS feed. Step 2: / Put your drawing pants on and get involved in Drawing Day (this Saturday June 7) and submit your efforts to the Drawing Day Red Bubble group. Step 3: / Chillaxx Step 4: / On Sunday, come back to the Drawing Day group and choose your very favourite drawings, and be sure to bubblemail the artists to ask for permission to post their drawing on your blog. Let them know that you’ll attribute them and link back to their piece of work and profile. Step 5: / Blog about the drawings you’ve selected! If you have heaps, split up your posts. If you have only a few, make up stories about them. Blog blog blog! Step 6: / Before you hit “publish”, come back to this entry and see if any RB bloggers have pasted their blog entry urls in the comments. Make sure you link to the other bloggers participating, so your readers can continue the Drawing Day journey on other people’s blogs. Step 7: / When you’ve published your blog entry, come back here and paste the url of the entry for other bloggers to link to. By Monday most bloggers should have posted their entries, so it’d be a great time to round up the straggling links and update your blog post with them. Basically what we’re doing is / a) spreading the Drawing Day love / b) spreading the Red Bubble love / c) helping fellow Red Bubble artists get exposure / d) helping fellow bloggers get better hits and google-fu / e) helping ourselves get better hits and google-fu Please let me know if any of this doesn’t make sense, it all makes sense in my head :P

I’m so excited! I just checked out my rank in the ‘Macro circle/round’ challenge in the 1:1 Macro Club, and I am number 2, with 43 votes. Just a few hours ago I was number 1!!! I got so excited , and was hoping to stay there, but now I’m number 2!! The suspense is killing me. I’ve been in the top ten a few times in various challenges, but never this close. It’d be awesome to win a challenge, can’t wait to see if I bounce back up….it must be so close between the top few pics, as I’ve been #1 or #2 or #3 quite a few times over the last few days. / NAIL-BITING STUFF!!!!!!

linaji is a most wonderful artist who lives too far away, for my taste. It’s amazing to me… the kindness and generosity she has shown. But then, I got to thinking about how her actions should really be the norm of our lives, and not the exception that astonishes us. She’s was an example and inspiration in so many ways, even before we have been getting to know each other…her work, her generous spirit, her willingness to connect, and bridge connections between others. Her honesty, and vulnerability concerning the process, and the journey her life leads her on. Which, by the way, speaks volumes to all of us if we are willing to listen. So this is my “Yay,Lina!” week (I’ve truly been rejoicing in her life). I cheer for her because of her willingness to “bring us along” with her, and show us that life “is what it is”, but can also be soooo much more! She’s a flower in the midst of a storm, and a strong bridge that stands againgst the virulent waves. A beauty, a connector, a catalyst- an artist in the fullest sense. Fierce grace!! I’m blessed to have such an artist, and friend in my life to inspire me to keep creating, and sojourning on! I hope we can all be “lina’s” to each other here in the bubble, and in our spheres of influence out there in the big wide world. Not striving for perfection, not fake, or flattering for the sake of flattery, but genuinely caring about and for each other, and our growth as human beings and artists. Cue the music: / “What the world…needs now…is love…sweet love..” JUST KIDDING!!! lolololol ..Couldn’t resist , though.

I’ve been turning in circles for days. landing pattern. that’s what they call it, isn’t it, when a plane circles awaiting permission to land. that’s me, circling, holding, wings out, wheels down, going nowhere. for days. exhausted. so exhausted. I’m so exhausted my eyes itch. itch. i hate it when i itch. i got these bugs under my skin that won’t let up. my scalp itches, my shoulders itch. the backs of my calves have these red welts on them from where i rub my shoes on the back of my trouser leg to ease the itch. and thanks for your concern but you can forget your creams and your balms and your salves. no good those things, nor your herbal home remedies. it’s in the mind see. all in the mind. and all because i’m tired. so damned tired. waiting. waiting. for an answer. days of waiting. circling. running on the spot. jogging to stand still as the bald earth spins like a drunkard beneath me. and no answer, only more waiting. please hold, your call is important to us. hold. hold on, hold on, you gotta hold on. i’m circling and i’m running and i’m holding and i’m tired and i’m itching and i just want it to stop. now. for one hour, for one minute, for the single moment, preseved in a single tick of the clock. give me one tick. one tock. of the clock. now. please. stop

A graphic artist is what I am. A stupefied lapdog to the evil commercial world that sells you shinier and sexier versions of things you already have. The worst part of it is I quite enjoy it. I studied graphic art and history of art at university, certainly on the days I attended. I also studied music, socialising, fondling and leaving the remains of coffee for scientific research although no sheets of paper exist to prove my exact qualifications in these areas. Oh yeah, I was born in England and grew up following my parents to other bits of europe because my father insisting on earning his living this way, thus forcing me to be re-educated over and over in different languages until by the age of just nine, I was a continental wreck. After qualifying as a graphic artist (failure wasn’t on the uni curriculum, it just doesn’t advertise their capabilities very well), I worked in public relations (that’s basically telling big big lies, but really well), before eventually I set up an agency in central england. Company became successful, lots of clients, profits, awards, staff, overheads, thinking up new exciting christmas parties etc to the point where I got’ sucked into business plans and talking to finance directors. Got fed up, sold my shares, re-set up on my own etc. etc. Then also set up Liquid Art which is my art, by me for me and shared with only lovely people who share my taste and interests. The rest of me is made up of a love for music, adoring my wife and kids, doting on my black labrador (Teddy), walking, climbing, playing sports (though not golf), traveling (it never leaves you), photography, messing up with paints, films starting with the Coen brothers, art galleries (I like people watching). I quite like getting drunk when there’s no cause to celebrate or excuse for being so and I am prepared to admit that I went to a party dressed as a woman and felt invigorated. That’s it, so far, circling the milky globes.

Circle the Moon - an outline

(I have been looking for somewhere to enter novel/movie outlines and, thanks to Gayla Drummond’s helpful suggestion, am trying a few of them as journal entries, eager for feedback of course.) The year is 2345 A.D. At great expense, spurred on by fresh outbreaks of hostilities between the current super-powers, the U.N. has established a secret colony on the far side of the moon. Funding is steady for a few decades and the colonists manage to raise a second and then a third generation in the camouflaged domes and underground complexes on the moon, in spite of weak leadership and increasing social dissension. But when World War Six begins in earnest down on Earth, the regular supply ships fail to arrive. Frustration and despair bring on a crisis of authority, and the consequent civil strife soon reduces the lunar colony to a scattered few. Three young friends, two girls and a boy, who have been reared on the moon and have the characteristic white hair and elongated bodies, retreat to a cave inside one of the biggest craters, a hideaway of theirs since childhood. A few days later, while they are out on reconnaissance together, they happen to see a space-craft landing nearby from which a heavily armed contingent of soldiers disembarks. The three young people do not recognize the insignia on the ship or understand the language being spoken by the invaders, who are obviously hostile. Once the strangers have learned how to handle their bulky weapons in the moon’s reduced gravitation, they rush to the abandoned outpost and occupy it. The three teenagers return to their crater, easily traversing the considerable distance with their lengthy strides, and are busy establishing life-support and exploring the nearby caves when they meet an older couple, Donna and Jim. They are both friendly and are also seeking refuge in the caves inside the rim of the big crater. Donna and JIm bring the disheartening news that the latest World War has devastated Earth. The major powers have swiftly and decisively annihilated one another, leaving the petty dictators of formerly insignificant countries in control by default… and it would likely be many, many years before they ran out of military hardware. The older couple don’t have the heart to tell the youngsters this, but every city on Earth is now nothing but a smoking hole in the landscape. The few civilians remaining on Earth are also living underground at present, and the lunar colony has been almost entirely forgotten because it had always been top-secret and the elites were the first to go. Jim is a radio-operator and manages to set up a rudimentary communications-center in a separate cave, where he lives and sleeps with his equipment. The sparse news from Earth continues to be appalling. It transpires that the new European Overlord’s misguided invasion-force is now just as cut-off as the original colony because, in a fit of temper, the new ruler has ordered the execution of the entire technological community. Unfortunately, they had made him feel stupid. Jim hesitantly informs the teenagers of this and, against his advice, they decide to retake the main base. To this end, they begin to scout around and contact the other scattered survivors of the colony. This activity leads to several skirmishes with the invaders which do not go well for the colonists. At this point, when JIm and Donna are almost despairing, some odd radio-signals begin to appear on certain low-frequency carrier-waves. Jim attempts a response and makes first contact with a hitherto unknown species occupying tunnels and caverns at deeper levels below the craters. He arranges meetings with these ‘moonlings’, as he calls them. When the young colonists are ambushed by the enraged invaders, Jim and Donna plead for the moonlings’ help. Together they succeed in regaining control of the old outpost and of the moon, but are all forced to go underground again when there is a sudden barrage of meteors on the surface. In the process of surviving these disasters, they learn that the small gray moonlings are themselves descended from a long-forgotten civilization on Earth. Their ancestors were also sent to the moon at a time of technological advancement and highly developed culture, which abruptly collapsed and left them stranded. Through long narrow tunnels, the group of colonists follow the sad little creatures down to their odd dwelling-places in the subterranean bubbles that riddle the moon. With much ceremony, they are taken to view the ancient wall-carvings that illustrate the moonlings’ history and realize that in all probability they are beholding their own future. /

My “Amusement Park Rides (After Dusk)” image has been featured in the After Dark group. This has been a good all around image, as I’ve discovered through Red Bubble, to illustrate many concepts in photography such as motion, time lapse, speed and night, and/or “after dark” scenarios. Thanks to Red Bubble and the After Dark group for their great support and avenue available to us all for fine art and photography! Steve

Spirals on Spirals - The beginning

This is the second piece I’ve uploaded to Red Bubble and the first suitable for a T-shirt. You can view it here. / and here as a T-shirt. The description it has attached to it reads: Over the last few years I’ve really come to appreciate geometry and this is one of the graphic experiments provoked by that love. It’s easy to get lost looking for all the intersections and sub-circles within this entirely computer-generated piece. It’s pure mathematics meets a dream-catcher. Enjoy. Again, there’s a little more to the story, if you’re interested. I make my living as a graphic designer and often find the need to add interest to a page, usually without any budget to get a photo or commission illustration. This commercial problem led me to my current interest in geometric art. This piece was created in Illustrator and that application has a spiral tool. I was laying out a four page brochure for a client with a spiral logo. It seemed natural to overlap some spirals in the background of the page. That design needed to be fairly clean, so I only used three spirals. However, the various intersections between the spiral lines stayed with me. Recently, I had a little time to nurture that impulse and this is the result – twelve overlapping spirals. Seemingly simple yet there’s just so much going on as the separate lines intersect and interact. It all came together easily, in that way that you know your piece is going in the direction you want it to. Also, the flat colour of the piece makes it very T-shirt-able, which is fun! So let me know what you think.

This weekend I have a photo session with a friend. Taking photos of a more formal nature. I look forward to this because people are my favorite subject. I don’t get the chance to photograph people very often. On a more serious note, I am going to have to sit down and look over finances. Need I say more? It’s one of my least favorite subjects but it must be done. Things right now are going full circle, again. Or am I just reaching a new point? I got a chance to get away on my own this weekend. A friend is away seeing Madonna in Las Vegas. I may go down on Sunday afternoon spend the night and come home in the morning. Really need some sea air. They live on the water and have amenities that will relax me. Just me and the big house.
