This began as a watercolor only painting, but I went a step too far and overworked it. I was hugely disappointed and frustrated with myself that I didn’t just stop when I liked it. I tried to do “one more thing” and yuk! It is so hard to let go of things sometimes. It became about a five layer work (actually I lost count) and the end result is this mixed media with watercolor, acrylic, watercolor crayon and honestly I can’t remember what else. Amazingly, I cannot even remember what the first layer I loved so much looks like anymore, which I guess is for the best. I am pleased overall with the final outcome; the uniqueness of it, the layering and shapes. It was a good lesson in both my tendency to overwork and even “my mistakes” can be salvaged made new. My nephew just bought a house and has no art for his walls and I asked him if he wanted to choose one of my paintings. He chose this one. I think he likes the modern look of it and the colors are right for his decor. So everyone wins! Isn’t it amazing how every work has its own story? Thanks for hearing mine.
Sometimes I wish I could bring paintings to life.
