This was a gift from me to a good friend of mine, Tatiana.,,, aka 3DMirror on deviantART … that I had actually done in late July 2007. It was to celebrate 2 very important milestones in her life … her birthday, and to celebrate the day she took her Oath of Allegiance to the United States. Welcome Tatiana hon !!

/ My ‘First Tree’ is officially published in the coffee table book Artists of the West / For information on purchasing a signed copy of the book, go to Carrie Glenn Studios Thanks! First Tree was Featured in Lifestyles Magazine as part of an article about the Artists of the West coffee table book I am also honored to announce my painting First Tree was a part of the Rialto Towers two week art exhibit in Melbourne, Australia in of July 2007 Acrylic and pastel on illustration paper. (1995) This is truly the first tree I ever painted, the need to paint and create was something brewing so strongly inside I had to do something about it. Yet my resources were very limited, I grabbed the only paint I had any access to, a can of my father’s black spray paint, I sprayed it into the lid of the can and used the only paintbrush I owned a cheep nylon brush from a water color kit and created. I then finished my work with the only two pastels I owned brown and black. / Necessity is the mother of invention, or maybe it’s that there is more than one way to skin a cat. (Sorry cat lovers) At any rate I grew up in a home with very few luxuries but I did have a passion to create, always, I had to feed the creativity. So this is a very special piece to me and I hope to you as well. Down through the dark trees, you came and saved me... Completed in 2004, age 17 This is a slightly cropped version of the original, due to the limits of my camera. My original signature got cropped out so I had to insert a new one in photoshop; in the original it is not actually located there. Original size: (40” x 30”) The two subjects are posed in similar positions, each having a dark, circular central focus., Both images have lines above and surrounding the centres, which draw attention towards the centres. The vertical composition help strenghten the feeling of height given by the vertical lines. Both subjects are organic, however one, the eye, has straight lines and geometrical shapes, while the rose has curvy lines and organic shapes. In the eye, the centre is literally dark, while in the flower the darkness is created by shadows. I’ve spent the last 24 hours trying to find the name of this Australian native plant, commonly known as ‘Billy Buttons’, or botanic name ‘Helipterum Craspedioides’. This image was taken at the Cranbourne Botanic Gardens. / Nikon D200 / Processed in RAW..
Acrylic with metallic and glitter overlays on gallery wrap canvas, 40×40cm I should be feeling fantastic, my spirit should be soaring – instead I find myself earthbound and full of pain. Having stupidly broken my toe on Monday (the first broken bone ever), and being unable to take pain meds I just feel like crap. So I paint. This is for my sons girlfriends 18th Birthday and the symbology is clear (well, to me anyway) – but you can add your interpretations please:) Its also based in the song that I played a lot: INXS – Afterglow: “Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow / Heal me from all this sorrow / As I let you go I will find my way when I see your eyes / Now I’m living in your afterglow…” reproduced in part all credit and copyright of these lyrics belong to INXS
