Now that smoking is becoming an anti social habit, cigarette vending machines are becoming obsolete. But wait! There is a cunning plan in the US to convert cigarette machines into art vending machines. How about heaps RedBubble vending machines in Australian cities to sell mini block mounted artworks, swap cards, mini portfolios etc :-) Check it out here http://www.artomat.org/home.html

I was walking from my car to the grocery store today. A very elderly lady was ahead of me, so I slowed my pace. Two women with a baby with them were just ahead of her. One of them flicked a lit ciggerette without even looking where they were flicking it. It flew backward and sort of bounced onto the pavement nearly hitting the elderly lady! I was pissed! So, I approached them (uh oh) and said, “Excuse me, but that was kind of gross! You flicked your cigarette on the ground and nearly hit someone with it.” The women looked at me and said, “Well, everybody else does it!” This was a grown woman – my nine-year-old granddaughter is more mature than that! I said, (trying to remain calm). You are responsible for your own actions. She said, “Well, I’m happy with my life.” Sheeesh! Talk about arrested development! I gave up and just shrugged and said, “Okay.” I’m thinking of all the tinder-dry areas in the country and wondering how many wildfires people like that have caused. I’m such a biatch – I know. My husband says he worried that I might get smacked (or worse) one of these days, and I might, but sometimes I just have to speak up. Watch for me on the evening news – I’ll probably be the woman wearing the head-coat. =]

Cigarettes, cheap cologne, and coffee. Throw in the scent of raw fish and you get the dominating scent of Pike Place Market. I still don’t understand how this insignificant fragment of Seattle found a direct path into my heart. I despise the smell of cigarettes, and next to cheap cologne it’s one of the most appalling scents to take up air space. Yet, despite the dreadful aroma of Pike Place Market it has formed a bond with my heart, linked by an anonymous connection; some sort of a mutual understanding that’s beyond my level of reason. Pike Place Market. One of my all time favorite places to spend my mornings. It’s in the midst of the loud, busy crowds, I found some strange form of sanctuary. I love black coffee, I love everything about it, the strong aroma, and the mild bitterness of it. Yet the idea of staining my teeth always prevents me from enjoying it. Today was no different. White is was. I headed for the market. Previously read headlines of Seattle Times still lingered in my mind; none of which captured me psychologically. Just useless information intended to take up space. (In my arrogant opinion.) I had no intention of saving it to my memory. Who even knows how much of the news we receive on a daily basis is true…… If I was in charge of distributing the news ….I thought to myself…. People would know what I would want them to know, see things in the light I’d want them to see things in…. either to avoid panic, or just the opposite, to stir things up…… Why would these people operate any differently?…a cloud of smoke rudely interrupted my train of thought. I glanced at the homeless old man with pity but quickly bypassed him. I never did return to my previous question. Instead I neatly folded it and placed it in the invisible box of life’s many unanswered questions and unsolved mysteries. Perhaps one day I’ll get back to it. … Sipping on my White Chocolate Americano, I continued on my way, soon blending in with the crowds, and quickly becoming a pretty asset to someone’s background…… The ongoing chatter, the sound of drive-by traffic, the homeless plea for change, the live music, and the sound of coins …. Just like static on the radio began slowly fading as my thoughts began tuning in. Soon I was alone, in this sea of nameless faces. Faces that forever will remain meaningless and insignificant to me. Faces I would not recognize if fate brought us back together again. Yet, each one has a story. To which, from my perspective the pages will always remain blank……. In elementary and middle school math was my favorite subject. I was in love with numbers and equations. It was like putting together a puzzle, solving an insignificant mystery….. Math made sense. In high school years I slowly lost interest in math….. And it became just another subject, I no longer got excited for new formulas, new equations…. One day in 8th grade, as I was sitting in class solving a long equation…. I realized something. I quickly crossed out all the numbers in that equation and wrote in words. Events. Decisions. Choices. Life. Was one very long math problem. Negatives and positives. If you think about it, life follows the same principles as mathematics. Every action, decision and choice take place of a number, you add, subtract, multiply and divide….. And you get consequences, outcomes, and solutions….. In the case of life though, you have the authority to write your own equation….. It’s funny how people think they can cheat the system…. Unfortunately, you can’t go around the laws of math….. It will show up later in the equation…… and many realize it, often too late. A couple blocks down a young man was signing and playing the guitar. The harmony of lyrics and music magnetically pulled me to him. Two things I can’t resist. Live music and a man signing. I found a perfect spot on the grass a few yards away from him….. Ironically his lyrics were in precise accord with my thoughts…. I smiled…. Savings account. Putting away money just in case an emergency arises. So I was thinking…. What in the world is going on with my spiritual savings account? Do I have enough saved up? Sure I can put the everyday things on my “debit” card, I have enough Bible verses in my head to share the Bible with people. I can pray with someone. Encourage someone. I can help someone out. Offer advice. I have enough in my account to live the everyday Christian life. But if a really expensive soul came along….. Do I have enough in my savings account to buy that soul? Too bad the devil doesn’t accept credit cards….. My thoughts were interrupted once again. This time not by a cloud of smoke. But by a beautiful bouquet of fresh flowers. As I looked up, I saw a beaming young boy “they match your eyes” he said… a bit too fast…. And before I had a chance to reply he hurried away…. I stood up. I have an equation to write. I realized something today. I can only write so much of the equation of life. Some parts, like an unannounced bouquet of fresh flowers are out of my control….. I smiled…. and who knows maybe by some inexplicable definition, bright pinks, reds and purples are a perfect match for green eyes;) Inna Kibitskaya
