It might make for a good anti-smoking skin-aging ad, if she didn’t look so great. She was such a lovely lady, living in a village outside Mandalay where everyone was involved in different parts of the process of producing wonderful metal bowls. Some people panned for the base metal, some people took it and melted it, others made the crude bowls, still others used hammers and tools to make them look pretty, then they were sold by the folks who lived up by the main road. I’m not sure what this lady’s role was in all the above. I like to imagine that it was her job to oversee everything while smoking cheroots, nodding sagely, keeping a beady eye on everyone.
Inspired by the song by Coldplay and by an old photo of my grand-aunt. She was not as barely dressed as this lady – but she enjoyed the good things of life as well.
I decided to change the design because I felt the original did not tell enough of a story.. The Story… In our modern fast paced world, we need to do all we can to attract “shoppers” into our stalls. Countries are no different I guess. So sometimes tradition and decorum must be sacrificed to the advertising Gods. Sergeant UgeLipz, of the Queens Guards unwrapped his favourite Cuban Cigar, and, in front of the Palace, did the unthinkable and called the world to London. :) I really am anti-smoking, but the image appealed to me too much, so I had to do it. :)
A few leftovers from my many trips to Cuba over the years. Sold through Zazzle in April and May 2009 Also available on Zazzle as a business card design ideal for cigar and smoke shops (contact information is printed on the back of the card)

You know those people who say we should be the change we wish to see? those ones who always talk about how they want to treat the planet better for the sake of global warming? Then they don’t do anything to help? the term actions speak louder than words don’t click into their heads? This is depicting that subject. It’s revlolving around hypocricts out there who say things like that just to get that positive attention.. please note that Alannah is not one of those people.
