Apples can be canned, juiced, and optionally fermented to produce apple juice, cider, ciderkin, vinegar, and pectin. Distilled apple cider produces the spirits applejack and Calvados. Apple wine can also be made. They make a popular lunchbox fruit as well.Apples are an important ingredient in many winter desserts, for example apple pie, apple crumble, apple crisp and apple cake. They are often eaten baked or stewed, and they can also be dried and eaten or re-constituted (soaked in water, alcohol or some other liquid) for later use. Puréed apples are generally known as apple sauce. Apples are also made into apple butter and apple jelly. They are also used (cooked) in meat dishes.

This was one of the 1st spontaneous portraits that I took when I 1st bought my camera…...I didn’t get too close as I was not confident at what I was doing….and he also looked like a nutter! It was taken in Bristol outside of the Ostrich Pub by the docks. Edit….I felt the other one was over sharpened…hence this update!

I adore apple cider, especially in the autumn. A few mornings ago, I had it on the table, with the sun coming in at it, and realized my glass was perfect for a photo, especially with the fall foliage through our sliding door behind it. Unfortunately, I had to do a little postwork, (ie rotating it 1* so it wasn’t tilted, then cropping the whiteness). I used Microsoft Office Picture Manager to do that. My camera is a Kodak EasyShare Z885

I love handmade sausage, cheese and cider so a stroll around the recent European Food Market in Louth – and all the free samples that entailed – was an opportunity not to be missed. While most other people shot views, I decided to go for details. On the basis that I’d just bought a large bottle of dry vintage Normandie Cidre, the stall owner was quite happy for me to spend a few moments shooting this string of smoked garlic close up. Believe it or not I actually desaturated this one by 50% – and am quietly pleased with HDR and ‘rustic warmth’...

A satirical commentary on the excessive consumption and availability of alcohol in British society. Cider is the cheapest form of strong drink largely available and is the drink of choice for most alcoholics, of which there are many. An ‘Off-Licence’ is an English term for a Liquor Store.
