This church isn’t known for its stained glass windows, nor for its benches. It’s famous because of its neighbour – a 19th century precise replica of the original Via Dolorosa. No, they didn’t copy the buildings, just the distance and the actual slope. To make the glory of the Lord shine brighter, they didn’t just use the natural topography of the area. Instead, they dug a huge ravine – it took them 15 years, and it’s estimated that 70 000 men took part in the digging. But, of course, I didn’t take the picture of the Polish Via Dolorosa. The light wasn’t good enough.

I found this old piano in an abandoned church. It’s a haunting echo of music played, songs sung, and dances danced.

Its all in the title. This isn’t just an ordinary Church Spire. I am told its a copy of the Spire at St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh. This is actually what I would consider the most prominant landmark in Peebles. Peebles is a small Scottish Borders Town which lies about 20 miles south west of Edinburgh. Its possibly my most popular image to date out here in the real world. Made the Redbubble Home Page on the 29th of August 2008. March 2008 I’d pulled in to capture a picture of the Cooling Towers at the Ratcliffe-On-Soar Power Station in Nottinghamshire but on the walk from the car I just couldn’t believe the sky I saw on the way past this field. Taken with a Nikon D40 and Nikon 18-55mm lens at 18mm

I have always loved ruined and bare country chapels where the outside elements seem to be brought in through the windows and shafts of light. To me, the deep greenwood and forests are nature’s chapels,which can bring you closer to the divine than any grand,gold guilded cathedreal. For me there is no seperation between the divine and the natural world around us…..and I have found peace and harmony many times amongst the sacred Celtic springs and ancient trees in forgotten corners of this country. This image was particularly inspired by the small holy wells of South West Cornwall, where even to this day poeple leave offerings and gifts to the water elements and the old Gods.

Location: Bodie Ghost Town / Highway 395 / California / Technique: HDR (High Dynamic Range) Historical “Bodie Ghost Town” is an old mining town off of highway 395. Till this day folks that visit Bodie have sworn sightings in this famous landmark. Murder was not uncommon during the gold rush days and rumor has it that ghosts still linger the dirt streets of Bodie. The Eastern Orthodox cross (also known as the Byzantine cross) can be considered a modified version of the Patriarchal cross. / One tradition holds that the slanted bar represents the repentant thief and the unrepentant thief that were crucified with Christ, the one to Jesus’ right hand repenting and rising to be with God, and one on his left falling to Hell and separation from God. In this manner it also reminds the viewer of the Last Judgement.

This shot was taken on the way home from a motorcycle trip to Dayton, OH. My buddy was getting a little ticked off at my wanting to stop to take this shot, as we tried to outrun the rain. Am I glad we stopped !!! This looked like an old church, that someone then had used as a residence for years. I LOVE the red leather chair on the porch, and the sky was just perfect for HDR. Taken with Nikon D300 and Tokina 12-24mm lens. Post processing included HDR treatment, and some dodge & burn.

It is a very old site, once occupied by a small temple dedicated to the worship of the Fates, as recorded in the rare 3rd century epigraph (walled under the northern portico of the castle). Its original religious function was soon replaced by a military function, given its strategic position. In the 13th century the castle passed from the hands of the lords of Toblino into those of the lords of Campo, who owned the castle bearing the same name in the Giudicarie (Castel Campo). Later on, the castle fell into the hands of the church of Trento (1495) and the Cardinal Bernardo Clesio had the place restored and rebuilt (1536-1537) on Renaissance lines, to become a lord´s residence: it was decorated by some of the artists working at the Magno Palazzo of the Castello del Buonconsiglio in Trento. The prevailing 16th century elements are due to the subsequent transformations (courtyard portico and loggia, round arches) ordered by Gian Gaudenzio Madruzzo. All that remains of the Medieval castle layout are the wall to the west, a turret to the north-west of the present enclosure and the 20 meter high cylindrical tower, which may be considered a keep, strengthening the fortifications closing the summit of the fortified rock. Lake of Toblino This valley bottom lake has marsh vegetation (in particular ) and lacustrine (a few samples of “lamineto” of the ninfea gialla type); At certain points of the shore there are willow groves. As a child one of the most frequent things we did together as a family was to attend church on Sundays, I went to a Catholic School and the church I remember best was St Agnes’ at Port Macquarie… the nuns would come over for morning tea sometimes, and the priests would come for dinner occasionally…they were the days of fun parish picnics and life that wasn’t so hurried..when we took time to socialise, meeting and enjoying one another’s company. Mum was/is a great cook and host…and although this picture isn’t authentic as a portrait of her and myself…it’s representative. It’s also representative of new life and hope for the future, as the mother figure is with child….. and the child herself nurtures the wildlife…perhaps she is taking them to church for a blessing… perhaps the joey has lost his mother and needs nursing til he can fend for himself. The kookaburra is all seeing and all knowing….. the wise overseer of the bush… in this case, he stands in as the owl figure.
