“Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s” / Matthew 22:21 America’s Founding Fathers acknowledged the physical world is to be governed by secular law and the spiritual world as well as the afterlife is God’s domain. In today’s world the Christian right wish to have it both ways have everlasting life and to force their belief system upon all living in the United States. In this last election in California the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints “suggested” to their congregation to vote yes on prop 8. That suggestion brought the church into the physical world of secular laws. Once a church ventures into the secular they should no longer enjoy being tax exempt since they are making a choice to influence the laws or the political makeup of the legislative bodies. With America having such economic troubles what would the taxing of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints bring to the coffers of financially strapped towns, counties and America? How many other churches have been “suggesting” or blatantly being involved in the electoral process? I would suggest after Jan 3rd, 2009 a write in campaign to have all “religious” organizations that enjoy tax exemptions lose that exemption if they are involved in the political process. There is a difference when a religious organization or a man of the cloth stands in the pulpit saying vote your conscious and “suggesting” how to vote your conscious. Not only would those religious organizations lose their exemption all those members of their congregations would not be able to deduct their tithe to the church as a tax deduction. They could still donate their tithe to the United Way or the Red Cross to get their tax deduction but no more tithe to the church would deductible. They could still contribute to their church just not as a deduction. How much would the government gain into their coffers? It is projected the Catholic Church alone has a few Billion dollars in real estate alone not to mention other assets. Schools for example with a religious organization affiliation would lose their tax exemption as well while also required to comply fully with the State Board of Education’s curriculum. Hospitals or any other affiliations would lose their tax exemption. I have no problem with separation of church and state it is time for the state to put the church on notice if you play in Caesars domain you will be required to pay for the privilege. Why must it be so? Jesus has said it is the way to his kingdom.

View THE FALLING GARDEN / By Gerda Steiner & Jorg Lenzlinger Falling Garden / San Staë church on the Canale Grande / 50th Biennial of Venice, 2003 The Doge (Mocenigo) needed a church so as to be able to have a monumental tomb built for himself, the church (San Staë) needed a saint so as to be able to be built, the saint (San Eustachio) needed a miracle so as to be pronounced a saint, the miracle needed a stag in order to be seen, and we built the garden for the reindeer. / The visitors lie on the bed above the doge’s gravestone, and the garden thinks for them. Components: Plastic berries (India), cow pads (Jura), waste paper (Venice), baobab seeds (Australia), beech, elder and magnolia branches (Uster), thorns (Almeria), nylon blossoms (one-dollar-shop), pigs’ teeth (Indonesia), seaweed (Seoul), orange peel (Migros shop), fertilizer crystals (home grown), pigeons’ bones (San Staë), silk buds (Stockholm), cattail (Ettiswil), cats’ tails (China), celery roots (Montreal), virility rind (Caribbean), wild bore quills (zoo), banana leaves (Murten), rubber snakes (Cincinnati).

This quality of restraint in Jesus – one could almost call it a divine shyness – took me by surprise. I realized, as I absorbed the story of Jesus in the Gospels, that I had expected from him the same qualities I had met in the southern fundamentalist church of my childhood. There, I often felt the victim of emotional pressures. Doctrine was dished out in a “Believe, and don’t ask questions!” style. Wielding the power of miracle, mystery, and authority, the church left no place for doubt. I also learned the manipulative techniques for “soul-winning,” some of which involved misrepresenting myself to the person I was talking to. Yet now I am unable to find any of these qualities in the life of Jesus. If I read church history correctly, many other followers of Jesus have yielded to the very temptations he resisted. Dostoevsky shrewdly replayed the Temptation scene in a torture cell of the Grand Inquisition. How could a church founded by the One who withstood the Temptation carry out an Inquisition of forced belief that lasted half a millennium? Meanwhile, in a milder Protestant version in the city of Geneva, officials were making attendance at church compulsory and refusal to take the Eucharist a crime. Heretics there, too, were burned at the stake. To its shame, Christian history reveals unrelieved attempts to improve on the way of Christ. Sometimes the church joins hands with a government that offers a shortcut to power. “The worship of success is generally THE form of idol worship which the devil cultivates most assiduously,” wrote Helmut Thielicke about the German church’s early infatuation with Adolf Hitler. “We could observe in the first years after 1933 the almost suggestive compulsion that emanates from great successes and how, under the influence of these successes, men, even Christians, stopped asking in whose name and at what price…” Sometimes the church grows its own mini-Hitlers, men with names like Jim Jones and David Koresh, who understand all too well the power represented in miracle, mystery, and authority. And sometimes the church simply borrows the tools of manipulation perfected by politicians, salesmen, and advertising copyrighters. – excerpt from The Jesus I Never Knew, by Philip Yancey it is for this reason that, even though I am a Christ follower, I can only be so offended when people like Bill Maher (whose show is extremely insightful, entertaining, and funny) are quick to bash Christianity. If you listen very closely, insults like Maher’s are nearly always directed at Christians, but hardly ever Jesus himself. If anything, it sheds a light on how much we need God’s grace: believer or not, nobody does a good job of walking in the same footsteps of Christ, and every time we try to pave that road into something that’s a little easier on our feet, we do such a lousy job of it that it should come as no surprise that so many people roll their eyes at Christians. Ghandi said it best: “I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.” And Margaret Cho put it a little more bluntly: “Many of my contemporaries are atheists, and for good reason. God isn’t really the problem; some of His followers are big assholes.” That being said, I kind of feel the need to let people know that JESUS is the true face of Christianity, not other Christians, not Jerry Falwell, not the misguided believers (that’s pretty much all of us) who get the most media attention when you turn on the news. So, to my atheist friends, I won’t fault you for sniping or rolling your eyes at Christians in general – in truth, we deserve it, more often than not. But, if whatever doubt you have in your heart is really that strong, I hope it motivates you to find some answers – I hope it motivates you guys to study the Man whom I find it difficult to stop listening to/ thinking/ praising/ writing/ singing/ talking about. And if you really take a good look at Him, read about him, who He was, and what He did, from all viewpoints and perspectives, then I hope you’ll understand why I call myself a follower of Jesus Christ, why the most anyone can be is a poor reflection of Him, and why I keep trying to be a little more like Him in spite of the fact that I seem to fail at every single attempt.

One Sunday morning, everyone in one bright, beautiful, tiny town got up early and went to the local church. Before the services started, the townspeople were sitting in their pews and talking about their lives, their families, etc. Suddenly, Satan appeared at the front of the church. Everyone started screaming and running for the front entrance, trampling each other in a frantic effort to get away from evil incarnate. Soon everyone was evacuated from the church, except for one elderly gentleman who sat calmly in his pew, not moving… seemingly oblivious to the fact that God’s ultimate enemy was in his presence. Now this confused Satan a bit, so he walked up to the man and said, “Don’t you know who I am?” The man replied, “Yep, sure do.” Satan asked, “Aren’t you afraid of me?” “Nope, sure ain’t,” said the man. Satan was a little perturbed at this and queried, “Why aren’t you afraid of me?” The man calmly replied, “Been married to your sister for over 48 years.”

I found this on Our Daily Bread, a prominent Christian daily devotional booklet. A great diamond in the rough, if applied to everyday live, It may actually SHINE. From Our Daily Bread October 11, 2008 / The Art Of Common People The 16th-century Italian painter Caravaggio received scathing criticism in his day for depicting people of the Bible as common. His critics reflected a time when only members of royalty and aristocracy were considered appropriate subjects for the “immortality” of art. His commissioned canvas of St. Matthew and the Angel so offended church leaders that it had to be redone. They could not accept seeing Matthew with the physical features of an everyday laborer. According to one biographer, what the church fathers did not understand was that “Caravaggio, in elevating this humble figure, was copying Christ, who had Himself raised Matthew from the street.” Caravaggio was right about the people of the Bible. Jesus Himself grew up in the home of a laborer. When His time came to go public, He was announced by a weather-worn man of the wilderness known as John the Baptizer. His disciples were fishermen and common people. Jesus lived, loved, and died for wealthy people too. But by befriending those who had been demon-possessed, lepers, fishermen, and even despised tax collectors, the teacher from Nazareth showed that no one is too poor, too sinful, or too insignificant to be His friend. — Mart De Haan FAIR USE NOTICE This JOURNAL may contain material copyrighted by another person. This entry is in no way artistic – so you have been warned. Yes I am unashamedly a Christian, I find no other even slightly reasonable answer to the great questions of life; but do not misunderstand me. I am NOT pro church; in fact I think 99.9% of the time church sucks. But Jesus rocks. I am totally fed up with what most churches are on about – maintaining the institution. Christ centred Christianity is about relationship Jesus and each other. These things I am very pro. This is not an uneducated nor and inexperienced voice. I have been a part of the beast called the church for over 50 years & I have two degrees in theology. Most of what is talked about in church is concerned with building the institution, something we are NEVER charged to do, or maintaining the institution, something which takes too much energy, corruption, manipulation and money. Even the churches that say outwardly that they are not about buildings and programs, eventually get around to being about building and maintaining something. What about relationships? People do not know each other nearly well enough, let alone care about one another. E.g. I had a few days away (a very rare treat) which went over a weekend, so we missed church two weeks in a row & 6-7 days of RB. I did NOT receive any communication from church folks, but quite a number of fellow RBers asked if all was OK? So pat yourselves on the back & if you are a church member try to take that caring into that community too, or else what future does the church have… not much. Regards & blessings to all / Max :)

The Church of St. Andrew in Stratton is situated just over a mile inland from the Town of Bude. Over the Centuries the Norman Church has enlarged considerably incorporating much history as it has grown over time. The doomsday survey implies that there could of been a Church in Stratton before the Norman Conquest & extensive restoration in 1888 uncovered traces of what undoubtedly could of been it’s norman predecessor directly beneath. The oldest feature to be seen is the granite font which is quite simplistic but dates back to the 12th Century & this is the time when the true history of St. Andrew starts to unfold. for information on Stratton & it’s church go to www. bude.co.uk/church-trails/Bude/Stratton.htm anyway that information was for craig shillington enough history, we posted some self portraits for the self portrait feature, that about all for now Happy bubbling Paul, sue & tiggs

So, if you’ve never heard of these people let me sum everything up for you. A while ago a civil rights lawyer decided to start his own religion based on bits of the bible he fancied best and now about 50 years later his whole family ( around 70 ) have started picketing funerals of dead soldiers and others with a simple message, god hates everyone in the world because we tolerate homosexuals and everything that’s wrong in this world is their fault, so basically we’re all going to hell because some people are gay. That’s about it.To fully grasp the magnitude of this you should probably watch some youtube videos with them. Where does the fun start and why should we even care? I care, and not because I personally have soft spot for gays, one step at a time. I like diversity and accept other people’s beliefs, my best friend is a homofob and sexist, that’s just how he feels it’s more or less the difference between prefering red over blue or heels over flats, die gustibus non disputandum. / Does the bible actually say something about gays? Yes it kinda does, back in the old days when god apparently enjoyed watching torturing his faithful believers.I’m not gonna start the bible talk because it would take too long. / Everyone is intitled to speak their mind and promote their beliefs, cuckoo as those may be. All these considered why can’t I just accept these people and move on, stop wasting time on youtube and stop boring you to death with this.Well it’s really simple and I’ll try to make it short. They are dangerous, there are some people that adhere to their ideas and some that resent them. Today in the world we live in there is no place for racial, religious or sexual discrimination, the diversity and multitude of people makes it impossible, in the end it will die out, there will always be conflicts between people but that’s it, therefore their efforts are futile and against the natural course of things. / They inspire hatred, in both groups, whether you like them or not that’s the end result, if you’re with them then you hate everyone else if you’re not you hate people like them or god or religion or even freedom of speech. After posting up signs that say “thank god for 9/11” “thank god for dead kids” and the ever present “god hates everyone” the public is pretty numb, you can pretty much do anything after that , they are breaking the boundaries of social interaction and in the end common decency, what follows is anarchy and we are too many to afford it. / They are using their kids in protests, kids that can’t even talk are taught their first words: hate, fags(and i don’t mean ciggaretes), hell. Those kids are being brainwashed, exploited and denied basic human rights. / Most of them are lawyers ( I know, it sounds like a horror film already), about 11 lawyers in one family and more to come, they provoke people and then sue them for money, that’s how they make a living. / I can’t think of any place on earth where crashing a funeral is accepted, I think that’s one thing the world agrees on, death is not be fooled around with, and funeral rites are sacred. / All in all the most disturbing is the sheer stupidity of their message, gay people have damned everyone to hell (imagine that hell, :)), that would be fun) . There are some that might argue that by talking about them you’re actually helping in spreading their message, like all publicity is good publicity, that may be true in some cases but I don’t think these people should be ignored, they are dangerous, history has taught us wars get started like this. / / So, that’s about it. I didn’t want to go into detail too much(:))). Have a nice day everyone.

Hi to everyone – just thought I’d let you know of a new group actually the brain child of Judy Woodman (my sister-in-law and co-host), that we launched a couple of days ago – *HISTORIC CHURCHES here Our group has almost instantly jumped to 32 members and three pages of images so there must be a lot of interest out there for this type of work. I invite any and all of you to join if you feel it is of interest to you. The only real requirement is that the church be historic and that you fill in something about that history to complete the package. As I’ve said before “it can’t be a historic church without the history”.

Everyone must visit Shelagh’s photographs here on Red Bubble! Unfortunately I have had no luck when trying to place photos in a blog entry here. I will try but please check out her link. http://www.redbubble.com/people/shelagh1312 I came across her wonderful photos whilst browsing blog pages and insisted that she join and upload her photos. She DID!!!! I know everyone will love her photo “Baltic before the rain”. I am living in drought ravaged South East Queensland (the Darling Downs to be exact) and to look at her photos of water and lush greenery is such a tonic. And, being a mad cat lover, I am also going to be buying up the photos of her cats to send on to my cat loving family and friends. Thanks for joining Shelagh! Best wishes, Michelle.

There has been so much trouble in my life, / but i did not give up with out a fight. / As i beleave there was somethings that i was right / in saying and doing that people didnt like. I must say there has been some good times, but more so bad, / that has made me all so sad, and yes at times very mad. I have laughed and cryed so many times throw out the years, / that has left me with many tears and scarey fears. It then becomes night and i close my eyes, just to have all these nightmares / and frights. Its not right. But all i can do is hang in there and not give up without a BLOODY good fight / and use all my mite. / As for one day i hope to make it all right. By: Belinda Meers.
