Built around 1815 this church in the hills of Chimayo, New Mexico, is considered a masterpiece of colonial folk art and architecture and has been deemed a National Historic Landmark. Famed for its miraculous cross and the healing powers of the soil, the Prayer Room is filled with candles, cards & crude hand made shrines as well as crutches and braces testifying to miracles. Directly across the road they sell the best chili powder money can buy. /

Another shot from my cemetery series. This shot really caught my eye, man lays asleep waiting for the resurrection and nature lays dormant waiting for that breath of new life come spring. One of our favorite campgrounds has this lovely little pond. I happened to catch it just right that day. You had to drive several miles on a very narrow twising road through the moutains of West Virginia to get there. Very nerve wracking, especially when you are pulling a trailer. Oh, and “Romance” is actually the name of the town! MY FAVORITE COUNTRY ROAD / Best viewed large. / / / / “MY FAVORITE COUNTRY ROAD” was featured in the group COUNTRY ROADS/AROUND THE WORLD / / / / “MY FAVORITE COUNTRY ROAD” was featured in the group NATURAL COLOR AND LIGHT / / / This is a recent photo of my favorite country road! It is located in Flatwoods, Kentucky, in Greenup County, which lies in the northeastern part of the bluegrass state. Many of my relatives live in or just outside of Flatwoods, and my Dad built this one. / / The scenery from this road is almost surreal, it is so beautiful. Surrounding this road are country farms, barns and old churches. This road winds around a gorgeous mountain cloaked with a variety of lush trees and evergreens, whose leaves are radiant in the Fall of the year with brilliant shades of yellow, orange, red, brown and green. / / At the top of the mountain is the end of this magnificent road, which leads to a private, gated mansion that overlooks the entire county. It is very quiet and peaceful there, and everything, including time, seems to stand still on this beautiful road. One of my favorite places to visit in the beautiful Pisgah National Forest in North Carolina is this grove of trees we call the “Cathedral.” The first time we found it, my husband and I realized we were whispering as if we had entered a church. There is something magical about this place. The silence is total and it seems to welcome us each time we visit. Whenever anyone asks us which church we attend, we glance at each other and tell them “The cathedral in the forest.” Even though the trees were planted by man, there is a sense of a special energy in the center of the grove.

Combination one room school house, church, community building, and town hall. These structures are scattered through out the Ozark Mountains, and the foothills of Arkansas. Sooooooo…... These types of scenes are very familiar to me, living here in the good ol’ natural state. My very first years of school began in a one room school house almost identical to this one, and it is now long gone.. When I look at this photograph, I can still see us all running, and playing in the school yard, and hear all of our laughter, and screaming. All the sounds of the children playing, as we went along in our merry, carefree younger days. I remember…........

Grosso modo, the story continues this way: / Quietly, one day the daughters are sitting embroidering , until Angustias rushes furiously back into the room. Someone has taken her picture of Pepe from under her pillow. Bernarda, hearing the commotion, enters and demands to be told which sister is the thief. Strangely, it is Martirio who has hidden it in her bed, a joke on her sister, she says. Adela is enraged with jealousy and even tells Angustias that Pepe only wants her for her money. Bernarda, after attempting to hit Martirio, screeches at them to stop and orders them away. She is obeyed as usual. / Later, Poncia, the maid, tries to warn Bernarda that Pepe is the cause of all the troubles in the house and must be married quickly. Bernarda refuses to accept this. Poncia tells her he is really Adela’s sweetheart and asks that they marry. Again Bernarda dismisses her suggestion. Angustias returns and in talking, the three realize that Pepe has been leaving Angustias at one, but not leaving the house till four in the morning. It is Adela he is with, as only Poncia knows. / Only three days remain till Angustias and Pepe are to marry. She expresses her worry to Bernarda that he seems distracted. Her mother advises her to ask him nothing and say less, and to never let him see her cry. Angustias is unhappy but cannot fathom why. Later, the women have a quiet evening, quite peaceful and Pepe is not expected _ he´s supposed to be away on a trip. But, as people begin to settle for the night, Adela slips out to the corral (stable) in order to meet Pepe again. This is the church of St Winnow, which lies on the banks of the River Fowey, just below Lostwithiel in Cornwall, England. The church was featured in the 1977 BBC series of Poldark, which starred Anghard Rees and Robin Ellis, as Ross Poldark. This capture was shot in colour, but converted to B+W with an IR filter in CS3. For more than 900 years the Parish Church of Rye, dedicated to St Mary the Virgin, has dominated the hill on which the old town stands. When the building of the present church was started, early in the 12th century, the town itself and much of the surrounding area was still held, under a Royal deed of gift, by the Abbey of Fecamp in Normandy. It is because of this link with Fecamp and the fact that it had become an important member of the Cinque Ports Confederation that Rye has such a magnificent church, which has sometimes been called ‘the Cathedral of East Sussex’. The worst disaster in the church’s history Pack & Chapman bells cast in 1775occurred in 1377 when the town was looted and set on fire by French invaders and the church was extensively damaged. The roof fell in and the church bells were carried off to France.They were recovered the next year when men from Rye and Winchelsea sailed to Normandy, set fire to two towns and recovered much of the loot, including the church bells – one of which was subsequently hung in Watchbell Street, to give warning of any future attack. It was not returned to the church until early in the 16th century. The ‘new’ clock was installed in about 1561-2 and was made by the Huguenot Lewys Billiard. It is one of the oldest church turret clocks in the country still functioning. The pendulum, a much later addition, swings in the body of the church. The present exterior clockface and the original ‘Quarter Boys’ (so called because they strike the quarters but not the hours) were added in 1760. Today, if you wish, you can climb the church tower where you will see the 8 bells now hanging there. These are not the same bells that were stolen in 1377 as they were re-cast in 1775 and new bells added. The total weight of the 8 bells and clappers is almost 5 tons. Notre Dame, Paris, captial city of France. The last in my Notre Dame series. I created six versions of this shot, trying different textures, colours and layers, but this was the first one that moved toward a theme or emotion that I wanted. It feels quite lonely and stripped of hope to me, but I’m sure it will have varied meaning to the individual.
