  • All Saints Church, Bodalla, New South Wales, Australia.

  • When rebuilt in 1890, the gate of this RC church was initially marked by canons left over from the battles with the French, then statues of the Saints were added on top, which gave us the famous “Canonized Saints of Bay Bulls.”

  • St James parish church perches on the top of a rocky outcrop in the small village of Buttermere in the English Lake District National Park.

  • Hampreston Church Another view of the Church of All Saints, Hampreston, this time from around the back! The Church, not far from Wimborne in Dorset has changed more than a little through the ages. Its origins are shrouded in the mists of time, most likely Saxon, possibly around 600 A.D. Written records only go back as far as 1261. The tower, nave and chancel are 14th century, the roof 17th century, and the remainder owes much to a Victorian renovation which became necessary in the late 19th century because the church was in a poor state of repair at that time. The village or hamlet of Hampreston was mentioned in the Domesday Book (commissioned by William the Conqueror in 1086), but has probably changed little over the centuries. It’s a peaceful spot, the Church, village green, school, a few cottages, houses and farms. One road in, one road out, but worth a visit if you’re passing that way! Date: 6th July 2008

  • This photo was taken in the huge Cathedral of Segovia. Being a Jew (and not being able to read Spanish in the cathedral, and hurrying in order to take as many photos as possible in limited time…) I have no clue at the moment who the sculptured figure is meant to be. Still, I was deeply touched by his posture and expression. The Cathedral of Segovia / The Cathedral of Segovia is located in one corner of the Plaza Mayor, at the center of the city. Formerly, it was built close to the “Alcazar”. This made difficult the war operations, being destroied during the war of the Communities, and rebuilt at its present location. Emperor Charles I of Spain and V of Germany wanted it to be built again. Architect Juan Gil de Ontaסon (the same who built Salamanca’s Cathedral) begun it at 1525. When he died, Garcia de Cubillas continued the works untill 1558, when the main nave was concluded. A second stege of the works was conducted by Juan’s son: Rodrigo Gil de Ontaסon. When he died, at 1577, Martin Ruiiz de Chertudi continued. Juan de Mugaguren finished the coverture of the transept at 1615. It’s one the most emblematic Gothic churches at Sapin, together with Salamanca’s Cathedral. The first stone was placed at June 8th, 1525, during the empire of Charles I, and being bishop Don Diego de Ribera. The works ended at the XVII century, but respecting the gothic patterns. Source /

/ Have a look at my other photos. • St. Mary’s Church, a parish church of the North Yorkshire fishing town of Whitby, U.K. The oldest parts, primarily the tower and basic structure, are Norman and date from around 1110. / The church has never been entirely stripped or rebuilt, but various extensions, modifications and furnishings were added over the centuries. The interior is mostly 18th-century and contains one of the most complete sets of pre-Victorian furnishings in England. From 1890 to 1896, Whitby was the home of Bram Stoker, who set an important scene in Dracula (1897) at the church: For a moment or two I could see nothing, as the shadow of a cloud obscured St. Mary’s Church. Then as the cloud passed I could see the ruins of the Abbey coming into view; and as the edge of a narrow band of light as sharp as a sword-cut moved along, the church and churchyard became gradually visible… It seemed to me as though something dark stood behind the seat where the white figure shone, and bent over it. What it was, whether man or beast, I could not tell.

  • I photographedt this at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, in midtown Manhattan, NY. I have been there many times but decided to go there recently. For some reason this ‘gate’ caught my attention more than the altar. However since it was rather low, I had to kneel in order to capture it at this angle.
