Poppies are a symbol for remembrance. We remember those who have given their lives on behalf of others, especially in conflict. These were in the parish church at Burnsall, in the Yorkshire Dales. My wife’s family has a connection with the church and we were visiting in remembrance of her grandfather who had been Church Warden there at the end of WWII. The church was very peaceful and this scene caught my eye. If you are ever in the area it is well worth a visit as it has a small museum nside with artefacts found locally showing the early life of the first settlers in the area, going back to pre-historic times and also covering the early Christian history. St. Wilfrid preached on the banks of the Wharfe over 1300 years ago and a wooden church was soon established on the site of the present building. Worship has continued to this day and St. Wilfrid’s is now a thriving church which has regular Sunday worship based manly on the traditional service and also family worship. The church houses a very important collection of ancient stones. Thanks to a lot of hard work and funding from various bodies, these stones are now part of a fantastic display “Vikings in Burnsall”. This display can be visited at any time during the day. Amongst the stones are various crosses and hog backed tombs. There are guides (in different languages) and an audio guide will be available from May 10th 2005. Also of interest is the 15th Century alabaster panel which is on display in the Lady Chapel. It depicts the Adoration of the Magi and is of great historical value and interest. Built: 700 / Architect: St Wilfrid (?)
acrylic on canvas END OF DAYS Red sky in the morning, you’ve had your warning / the wolves are running, the end is coming See the white bird flying, he’s got a heart just like a lion / see the sun descending, on a world that fears an ending See the snake a creeping, as the children are a sleeping / there’s a tower in the middle, it’s built of death and lies and riddles Only love can set you free Sheep rushing to the fold, a remnant neither bought nor sold / a single shepherd on a rock, face all the nations for his flock see the light in motion, hits the earth just like an ocean / soon the sky unravels, stars fall down like so much gravel Look away from all your idols, this cursed earth is suicidal / lift your eyes up to the sky, see the heavens, see the heavens eye to eye only love can set you free

The castle is located in what was once the very volatile border area between England and Scotland. Not only did the English and Scots fight, but the area was frequently attacked by Vikings. The castle was built in 1550, around the time that Lindisfarne Priory went out of use, and stones from the priory were used as building material. It is very small by the usual standards, and was more of a fort. The castle sits on the highest point of the island, a whin stone hill called Beblowe. It can be located in Northumberland,on Holy Island. England.
To me religion shoulden’t be about big, showey buildings and being preached too.I prefer a more natural approach ””The Kingdom of Heaven is inside you and all around you Split a piece of wood, and I am there Lift a stone and there you will find me” (interior shot at St,Conan’s Kirk on the shores of Loch Awe, Scotland)

“Now I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war.” Rev 19:11 These are the days of grace. The King is giving His creation time to come to their senses, and even now has His nailed-scarred hand extended out to humanity, to all who will come to Him. He offers peace, salvation, and forgiveness. Yet, as any earthly king knows well, there will be those who contest His right to rule over them, and these objectors will have to be absolutely dealt with in order to establish His absolute monarchy. Why not acknowledge His might now? I certainly have, for I don’t want to be one of the countless rebels who are forced to bend the knee and confess Jesus Christ as Lord. I want to be “in good” with the Great King who is soon returning to reign and rule. Is this the Jesus we think about often? I would say, “No”. Yet, consider these words penned by King David, a man who knew his King quite well. “Now therefore, be wise, O kings; / be instructed, you judges of the earth. / Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. / Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, / And you perish in the way, / When His wrath is kindled but a little. / Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.” From the Book of Psalms / Psalm 2: 10-12 / †New King James Version For an even longer artist’s description of this piece, and if you have the patience to read my rambling thoughts, please see my other gallery

Beverley Minster, East Yorkshire, UK. Beverley Minster, in Beverley, East Riding of Yorkshire is a parish church in the Church of England. It is generally regarded as the most impressive (architecturally speaking) church in England that is not a cathedral. / Originally a collegiate church, it was not selected as a bishop’s seat during the Dissolution of the Monasteries; nevertheless it survived as a parish church, and the chapter house was the only major part of the building to be lost. It is part of the Greater Churches Group and a Grade 1 Listed building. / The Minster owes its origin and much of its subsequent importance to St John of Beverley, who founded a monastery locally around 700 AD and whose bones still lie beneath a plaque in the nave. The institution grew after his death and underwent several rebuildings. After a serious fire in 1188, the subsequent reconstruction was overambitious; the newly heightened central tower collapsed c. 1213 bringing down much of the surrounding church. Work on the present structure began around 1220. ~ Wikipedia Samsung GX20, Tamron 24-105mm lens @ f22. HDR – my first ever attempt!

This is the steeple of Santa Croce (Holy Cross) church in Assisi, Italy overlooking a beautiful green valley. This church was built in the 13th Century and is therefore older than our country!! / I could not believe my luck to get such a great vantage point. / Assisi was definitely one of the highlights of our trip and this is one of my favourite photos! / FEATURED in the I LOVE ITALY Group. Thank You.
A painting with a unique and soaring perspective on one of Europe’s most visited and beautiful churches, St. Paul’s in London. Paul Jackson’s watercolor is an interior view of Sir Christopher Wren’s Anglican cathedral located on Ludgate Hill in Old London. The original is 40” X 60” and won Best In Show from the Kansas City Watercolor Society in 1996.
This church is located in Sedona, AZ. It was built right into the rock, sitting high above the road. It’s contemporary architecture is well intergrated into the environment and appears to grow directly from the rock. September 22, 2009. Best seen on full size This sweet little church, at the corner of Triadelphia and Sharp Roads in Glenelg, Maryland, stands empty. Probably built around 1900, it was most recently used as the home and studio of a local artist who has since gone to live in the sunnier climate of Mexico. Happily, the congregation of this beautiful little chapel didn’t die out, as so often happens, but instead grew too large for this structure and built a much larger church not far down the road. I was quite excited to have the opportunity to tour here July 26, 2009 when the realtor was holding an open house, as I’d driven past many times and had always wanted to investigate!! Image taken with the handheld Nikon D300 and the 18-200mm vr Nikon lens, shutter 1/250, aperture f/8.0, exp -.33, iso 500. Post work included hdr from 4 images at +3, +1, 0 and -2 evals … all duplicated and adjusted in Photoshop. Subsequent Orton technique was applied in PS, as were three textures at various blendings, and the brushed-in clouds. Included below is a capture of one of the windows in which, if you look carefully, you can see a reflection of the church bell … / which was directly behind me as I shot the window … My thanks to Princess of Shadows on Deviant Art and Ghostbones of Flickr for the great textures and to Obsidian Dawn for the cloud brushes.
Sacre Coeur, Paris. The amazingly original basilica is located in Montmartre, leading to the highest point of Paris city. First constructed in 1875, it was not completed until 1914, due to a problematic law system that almost stopped construction entirely. Only saved by a loophole, construction finally continued to the end. I didn’t get to spend as much time here as I would normally like to, but the climb to the top of the tower was worth it for the incredible view of the city below. Original shot layered twice, with 3 textures, colour altering of each layer, blending of layers, further colour altering and an omni light effect.
