Old church, abandoned for years, unholy place full of mysteries….
This pristine, picturesque church on the west coast of Norway was so enchanting. The inside of the church was minute….I don’t think you could fit a dozen people in it. The usually blustery North Sea weather took a break that day – lucky for me – and blessed me with blue skies and calm. The gravestones were incredible…..ancient…from so very long ago. THe graveyard dates to the Middle Ages. On the Varhaug Farm, Norway
I do have a few issues when it comes to religion, and sometimes it shines through in my art. But as fellow humans and artists, I hope you will and can bear with me. It is a free world and I want to express my non religious feelings, just like Christians and Muslims express their beliefs in their art sometimes. No offense, and I don’t want to hurt anybody, but do demand my right to express myself in the way I see fit…
Cill Chrisosd church ruins and graveyard on a stormy evening, road to Elgol, Isle of Skye, Scotland
St. Paul’s Chapel, NYC You only need to take a glance at this place to know it’s special… George Washington once worshipped here… this place also saw the worst of 9/11, and brought out the best in those who came here to help others recover from it.
A statue watching over a cemetery… I swear I saw her move once.
A ‘lost’ graveyard in Hackey, London
This one of our local Churcches, taken on a damp dark day, sort of the right day for churches and grave yards. Almost desaturated it to darken the feel.
These arches are in the churchyard of St Gregory’s Church Dawlish.Devon. This wall is the boundry of the memorial garden for the Hoare family of Luscombe Castle.

This old kirk and graveyard lay just behind the beach and little river that runs into Gruinard Bay … I presume it is the original church for the village of Laide.

A crisp and breezy hillside awaits the newly rising morning sun. Passing clouds are caught in the whispering winds high above the horizon and the light catches each layer of the silken veils, creating great ribbons of gold, yellow, orange and blue. The silhouette of a guardian of risen souls bows in quiet prayer in a country church yard… Not a single bit of afterwork was done on this piece. It is straight from the camera. LavenderMoon~
Bosham (pronounced /bɒzəm/) is a small coastal village and civil parish in the Chichester District of West Sussex, England, situated three miles (5km) west of Chichester on an inlet of Chichester Harbour. / The Church, dedicated to the Holy Trinity, is thought to have been built on the site of a Roman Basilica – the bases of the Chancel arch pillars are all that are left of that earlier building. (A villa with a central court built in the reign of Antoninus has been excavated in the grounds of Broadbridge Farm in Delling Lane, along with a marble head, a Roman bath and a small amphitheatre.) / The present building is largely Saxon, the first parts of it being built in the early 11th Century, during the reign of Canute – (He lived at Bosham for a while, and it is strongly believed that his eight year old daughter died here, and is buried in the Church. A skeleton of such a child has been discovered here, and the place is marked with a stone slab, bearing the Danish emblem of a raven.) Featured in the A Place to Call Home group JUNE 2009.
A murder of crows that is!
It is believed that a church was founded on this site in the 7th or 8th century. In 1080 it was recorded that the location was the site of an old Saxon church. Some of the fabric of that church remains in the present church. The chancel was built around 1340–50 and the south aisle was added in the 15th century. The north aisle was added in 1864 when other extensions and restorations were carried out. At that time an Anglo-Saxon doorway was moved and rebuilt in the churchyard, and two galleries which had served as private pews with their own entrances were taken down.
Shot in the St Just-in- Roseland churchyard, Cornwall, UK. This is the most beautiful and unusual graveyard I have ever seen. This churchyard and church is probably Cornwall’s most photographed and arguably the most beautiful. The 13th century St Justus church is perched on the edge of a tidal creek of the Percuil river with numerous paths leading from the churchyard to coastal footpaths and is about 2 miles from St Mawes. The vegetation in this churchyard is virtually tropical. A 19th century vicar brought in many tropical plants, some of which are rare to England and the combination of the waters edge and the wonderful flowers and shrubs in the churchyard are what gives the church its uniqueness. The church is on the site of a 5th century chapel, the churchyard slopes steeply upwards behind the church. I sat watching the crows swooping and diving as they gathered to roost for the night, the sound of caw caw really loud, it reminded me of Alfred Hitchcock’s film “The Birds”. There are two images merged together using the multiply blend mode.
