This one of our local Churcches, taken on a damp dark day, sort of the right day for churches and grave yards. Almost desaturated it to darken the feel.

Church set in the Scottish countryside @ Fintry.

Taken at Kilmaronock Church yard and touched up somewhat on Photoshop. The Church isn’t this scary. This church can be found just outside Gartocharn on the shores of Loch Lomond.

This image is replacing my previous post of “For Whom The Bell Tolls”... There were a couple things I didn’t like about the last image and I have since corrected them in this version. / / This is St. Pauls Church in Habour Grace. The church was built in 1835. I took this shot at midday with a beautiful blue sky and white fluffy clouds but I really wanted to attempt to make it more of a darker, gothic image. This is what I came up with… I hope you like. / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography

One of the Tombstones from the on-site Grave Yard at Christ Church Cathedral.

A crisp and breezy hillside awaits the newly rising morning sun. Passing clouds are caught in the whispering winds high above the horizon and the light catches each layer of the silken veils, creating great ribbons of gold, yellow, orange and blue. The silhouette of a guardian of risen souls bows in quiet prayer in a country church yard… Not a single bit of afterwork was done on this piece. It is straight from the camera. LavenderMoon~

Three Celtic Crosses looking out to sea in Coverack, on the Lizard Peninsula, Cornwall. I took this a few weeks ago while on holiday, and I am hoping that this will inspire me to get more done. I chose to do this as selective colouring, keeping the sea as colour. Hope you like it. / Thanks for looking. Pentax K110D. / Pentax 18-55mm Lens.

This is a recent memorial at Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church to all the unmarked graves in the cemetary. This cemetary holds many, many graves that are still unmarked and not sure whether who lays beneath them. Some say they are the graves of slaves and others say they are graves of the poor people in the area.

This is another HDR image of the inside of Peterborough cathedral. Peterborough cathedral has seen two Tudor queens buried here, this is Katharine of Aragon’s tomb. The other, Mary Queen of Scots was buried on the opposite side of the altar, though her grave is now empty (she was re-buried in Westminster in 1612)

Another shot from my cemetery series. This shot really caught my eye, man lays asleep waiting for the resurrection and nature lays dormant waiting for that breath of new life come spring. The orange of the leaves is a promise and a sign of hope that this is not the end of life but only the beginning. / / More in this cemetery series: / / / / / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography / / /

A life will always be remembered by someone.

This shot started out as a landscape shot of wetlands. I had an idea to add graves and an old church to make it look like an overgrown old church site. So I went down to my local cemetery and shot some interesting headstones, then combined them using layers in Photoshop Elements 6. I then added more layers of a nearby church, a different sky, a flying crow, and the moon. The headstone reflections in the water were done by inverting the originals on another layer and playing with blending modes, angles and perspectives until they looked realistic. As a laminated print - /

Shot Thoughts & Background Info—- Fairmont Cemetery in Denver is one of my all time favorite places to shoot at, especially during the Autumn months. It is quite old with headstones dating to when Denver was barely even a city. Quite massive in size, many of the structures contained within it are fascinating examples of architectural style. For this shot, I really wanted something different, so when I was shooting it I made sure to use my Minolta 18-200 DT lens so I could go ultra wide and capture as much as I could I had an idea already in my head for the post work, and for the most part I think it works as I had planned. I really wanted something moody, heavy on the atmosphere, that provoked thought in people when they saw it. Something that made them stop and think for a second. HDR Processed. Shot Details Minolta 5D / Minolta 18-200 DT Lens 18mm | f10 | iso 200 | 1/200 | / Singh-Ray CPL / Processed through Lightroom, Photomatix for HDR, and then finally Photoshop Thoughts welcomed! —-John jdebordphoto.com

I went to the cemetery today to just enjoy the peace and serenity. My wife and I walked through and read the old head stones that dated as far back as the very early 1800’s. It’s hard to not imagine the lives of these people and what it was like on earth in their time. What lives they led and adventures they had… then your mind turns to those they left behind. This headstone is the burial place of a husband and wife from 1921 and 1927. After all these years someone still leaves flowers on their graves in remembrance. / / / / / / / / / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography /
