Landscape of the Lord St. Malo outside of Estes Park, Colorado. One of thee most photographed Churches in all of North America, I was VERY excited and VERY anxious to get this shot when I headed up to Rocky Mountain National Park. I was hoping that the weather would clear because behind this, covered in the clouds, is Mt. Meeker and it is just a stunning view with the mountains! I have to admit though, I am really happy how this came out. And if anything, it is quite unique compared to how it is usually shot. I suppose that is a good thing when it comes to photographing something that is such an icon. Generally, people walk down by the pond and shoot from there, I stayed up top on the side of the road, thus giving a different perspective than most. Also, the weather. It was dramatic as all heck! You could smell the rain as it came in, dark, but with so much drama in the sky. I was pretty lucky to get a shot like this. Ya, I am happy with it! I used to go with my mother at Point-au-Père along the St-Lawrence river just for evening and night before reaching Grand-Anse,New-Brunswich, the village where she grew up.I had long walks on those rocs when I was very young,when I saw the little church it all came back to me.I saw myself with my little sister Maryse and my brother Peter picking up rocs and shells and the sun was going down,I was 14 years old…souvenir …souvenir…..an untouched shot. / Better view larger. / Two world challenge:personnal and history / /

The Cloister World / ______ Higher quality image Here ______ This photo was done during a one-day trip to the fascinating city of Évora. Classified as UNESCO World Heritage Site, one can easily get amazed at the diversity and quantity of historic buildings, including Romanesque, Gothic, Manueline, Renaissance and Baroque architecture. / ................................................................................. / This is one of those special places where, on a weekend, without the noise of cars and the crowds, you can forget present time, and feel immersed somewhere in the past, when beauty was cherished, and schedules were not a concern. / ................................................................................ / One of the places I’ve visited was the amazing Cathedral of Évora, and one of it’s strongest surprises: an exquisite and captivating cloister. / ................................................................................. / Cloisters have always fascinated me. In the past they were the place, inside a monastery, where the fusion of nature and men was strongest. Four cold stone corridors and a garden in the center, adorned with profound meditation, trying to reach the highest answers. / ................................................................................. / During the first 15 minutes I had some strong clouds in the sky, but the sun was uncovered and very strong. I tried to capture some photos, trying to properly expose both the building and the sky, but this proved to be impossible, even with ND Grads. Fortunately, mother nature helped, and the clouds finally covered the sun. Not only this helped in getting a correct exposure of the scene, but also lended a very special lightning to the whole scene, much different from the harsh light I had 15minutes before. This was the time to start shooting, and in 10 minutes I was able to cover some shooting angles I had planned beforehand. Here you can see one of them, hoping the image will be able to “capture” you into that magical place… / .................................................................................... / José Ramos

The workings of a frustrated creative mind gone temporarily insane… Too many tangents, too many ideas. Too many thoughts trying to cram their way into an already overcrowded space. A peek into my inner tumultuous subconcious. The working title for this was A Crisis of Faith – In Myself Of course I’m out of my mind…. It’s dark and scary in there! I think a prolonged hibernation is in order.

St. Francis of Assisi in Santa Fe Sitting in the center of the town square in Santa Fe, New Mexico stands the St. Francis of Assisi Church. Built between the years of 1869-1886, it sits on an earlier site of a church built in 1626. This was a REALLY hard shotto pull off as the town center square is filled with people so I had to act quickly. I fired off 3 brackets handheld for the HDR and metered at the bricks on teh church…hoping this was going to work….I think it did. Built around 1815 this church in the hills of Chimayo, New Mexico, is considered a masterpiece of colonial folk art and architecture and has been deemed a National Historic Landmark. It’s a beautiful medieval church SS Kliment and Panteleimon, from 9th century and is believed to be the first university in Europe. Saint Clement used his newly created monastery as a liturgical building and a place for teaching his disciples his variation of the Glagolitic alphabet, known as the Cyrillic alphabet. Clement personally built a crypt inside the monastery in which he was buried after his death in 916, his tomb still exists today. Located in old town in Ohrid, Macedonia, Plaosnik is an utterly unique phenomenon: it was recently reconstructed, with loving attention to detail, precisely in the style of a Byzantine church, right down to the red bricks and mortar. Today, Plaosnik is one of the most exhilarating Byzantine-style churches in Macedonia. Its floor is covered with mosaics of twenty wave-shaped tassel interspersed with the figures of flowers, birds and animals.
