(I AM NOT AN ARTIST I AM JUST A MAN WHO PAINTS.L.S.LOWRY).... I have been painting as an amateur artist on and off for many years.I have over the years developed a very unusual use of colour and content, which I now know from experience appeal to many people, Including individual collectors and dealers. Newcastle upon Tyne England has been a hotbed of heavy Industry since the beginning of the industrial revolution, most of which has now gone forever. A lot of my paintings are recollections of youthful images of the period, late 1940s and 1950s. They are inspired by local naïve and primitive pitmen artists I am also an admirer of L.S.LOWRY, and the great American artist EDWARD HOPPER .AND GRANMA MOSES among others. The Peach Daylily is from my garden and is now part of my photo collection...I took it one rainy day this past summer…I am mad about Daylilies and have many varieties which I show on a website I set up specifically to showcase my garden….see painted Daylilies from my RB pages below… The Daylily is a plant of the genus Hemerocallis, in the lily family, consisting of about 15 species of perennial herbaceous plants distributed from central Europe to eastern Asia. They range in colour from yellow to red and are each short-lived (hence “day” lily). Daylilies have fleshy roots and narrow, sword-shaped leaves that are grouped at the base of the plant. Some species are cultivated as ornamentals or for their edible flowers and buds. answers.com / / Joan Senior Daylily..Watercolour / / Joan Senior Daylily..Watercolour / / Joane Senior Daylily..Watercolour
I love winter, so it’s a great excuse to paint a winter scene. This is a pure fabrication of my mind. . . a reminder of the winters I spent in northeast Iowa. Original ptg: 20” x 16” / acrylic on canvas board destroyed in flood
This is one of the first digital paintings I ever did…it’s from a year ago! I might do it differently now, but I love the feel of it and thought I’d bring it out of the “archives” for a few days. Created in Corel Painter Essentials 2, edited in Photoshop Elements 3. /
/ “Peach with Half” is part of the Portfolio, Texture, Tropics and Food Collections..Acrylic on Canvas… The ripest peach is highest on the tree— / And so her love, beyond the reach of me, / Is dearest in my sight. Sweet breezes, bow / Her heart down to me where I worship now! / She looms aloft where every eye may see / The ripest peach is highest on the tree. / Such fruitage as her love I know, alas! / I may not reach here from the orchard grass. / I drink the sunshine showered past her lips / As roses drain the dewdrop as it drips. / The ripest peach is highest on the tree, / And so mine eyes gaze upward eagerly. / Why, why do I not turn away in wrath / And pluck some heart here hanging in my path? / Love’s lower boughs bend with them.. but, ah me! / The ripest peach is highest on the tree! / “Blueberry Tart” came into being this weekend….I was leafing through old magazines looking for recipes to tear out before discarding, and there and then a new series called “Delicious” was born…it will tie in with my Portfolio and Abundance collections, but this will be all about the food itself without any distractions ... / More than just pictures of food, the series will be saying something about our culture and society, and what we consider to be appealing…what does food mean to us beside just keeping us alive? why do we need it to be embellished and attractive? what does it say about us as a society?....the paintings can stand on their own, but will look great grouped together. Below you can see a painting by the most famous painter of everyday things Wayne Thiebaud…I have no plans to follow Thiebaud and others like him, my style is different, but I do admire what he set out to do as a comment on our society, and that is what I would like to emulate ... Watercolour on Sennelier Not Paper… Both Robert Frost and Pablo Neruda, celebrated the simple things in life in their poetry…here is what Frost says about this incredibly healthful berry. Blueberries as big as the end of your thumb, / Real sky-blue, and heavy, and ready to drum / In the cavernous pail of the first one to come! / And all ripe together, not some of them green / And some of them ripe! You ought to have seen... Robert Frost / Cakes Wayne Thiebaud
/ It is the simple indulgences in life that set us apart…that make us human…just think of the hot cup of coffee or tea, and the warm, softly glazed cinnamon bun waiting on a pretty plate at tea time or any time for that matter….I have placed mine simply on a mat….cut into it…pass a generous slice of it to your partner…there is enough for both….savour the sweet cinnamony goodness as it yields to your knife…Aah ... Did you know that October the 4th is Cinnamon Bun day in Sweden?...great idea I think…. “*Cinnamon Bun” is the 5th painting in the “Delicious” Collection…Watercolour on Arches Paper.. See the others in the Collection by clicking on the links below… / Scone with Berries and Cream Lemon curd and Blueberry Tart Strawberry Tart Blueberry Tart

“The Tarn” is part of the “Weekend in the Country” series, but because I want each work to stand on it’s own, this is painted very differently..sepia tones on fabric… / A tarn (or corrie loch) is a mountain lake or pool, formed in a cirque excavated by a glacier….our four friends have come to an impasse in their journey to another friend for Christmas…trapped by weather in a bothy on a mountain, they have no idea where to go or how to reach help…when we left them they were about to discuss what they should do next…to read the previous chapters and view the other paintings in the series, go HERE Watercolour, coloured pencil, and gouache on Raw Cotton..
I did post before and after of this in my port. :) Hope you like it – the young woman wanted a blue fantasy piece…. Do look at before and after so you get the idea. Hugs, Claudia
My Acrylic Painting , showing a scene from an earlier time, thats from a time ( although not mine ) .. looks to me simpler ,down to earth honest , calm and full of happiness ..... and of course central to everything Jesus wonderful Birth is the centerpiece , and in the painting shows people in the doorway of a church , and to me a real vibrant relationship with God is paramount to true heart peace and contentment Merry Christmas to All* ! and as a poster
