Taken from my blog: I was going through some paintings in my studio and stumbled upon this one that I had done some time ago. I had initially put it aside calling it a “WIP” and had fully intended to go back and do more work on it but never did. I’d shown it as a WIP to some arteeeest friends who had liked it very much “as is” and then just rolled it up and forgot about it. It’s huge…not exactly sure off hand how large but it’s on unstretched canvas….I’d say about 4ft X 5ft. What this piece represents is (and I remember painting it during one of those dry spiritual periods when I was trying desperately to pray but just couldn’t find the words) our prayers, which are sometimes nothing more than moans and groans….but are interpreted for us by the Holy Spirit giving us a direct and uninterrupted line to our Father. This happens often during our times of spiritual emptiness when we are reaching out to God and the words just don’t come. For those of you who are Christians, you will know this scripture from the Bible: Romans 8:26 (New International Version) “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.” Anyway, when I pulled the painting out this morning, I decided that just as Jesus said on the cross, “it is finished”.....and would like to share it with you all. Never stop talking to God, He always hears….even the moans and groans! Be Blessed. /

It is not that He is not there for me anywhere else…it is just that I often need to get away from the world and spend time in the garden with Him. I took this photo just north of the city of Orange, California a few years ago. I wanted to give it a more otherworldly effect to portray this lovely song. I saw this flower in my garden and the shadow of the cross lay across it. It was like a sign to me and I got the picture before the sun changed positions and the shadow disappeared. I did not put the shadow there, I just took the picture. I used Photoshop Fractilius and Micrografx to accomplish the finished work. We found this beautiful old Holy Bible in a bookstore several years ago. It has some marvelous images and even the apocrypha. The other things in the picture are all Christian related. The book on the right has a picture representing Jesus Christ and a Wedding Invitation. Directly above The Bible is a statuary of the Last Supper. To the left is a plate with four cups representing communion, the sacrament which we do in memory of Christ. In this picture the four cups represent The Father, The Son, The Holy Ghost and the partaker. The Partaker of the sacrament is spiritually accepting the flesh and blood of Jesus as atonement for his sins. Directly to the right of the Last Supper is a Star of David representing the source of Salvation which has its roots in David and Judah. The image to the right and below the Star of David is a Sand dollar. The Sand Dollar has a marvelous legend that goes with it. It is said that Christ left the sand dollar as a symbol to help the evangelists teach the faith. The five holes commemorate the five wounds of Christ, while at the center on one side blooms the Easter lily, and at the lily’s heart the star of Bethlehem. The Christmas poinsettia is etched on the other side, a reminder of Christ’s birth. According to this legend, if you break the center five white doves will be released to spread good will and peace. The Legend of the Sand Dollar There’s a lovely little legend / That I would like to tell, / Of the birth and death of Jesus / Found in this lowly shell. If you examine closely / You’ll see that you find here, / Four nail holes and a fifth one / Made by a Roman’s spear. On one side the Easter Lily, / Its center is the star, / That appeared unto the shepherds / And led them from afar. The Christmas Poinsettia / Etched on the other side, / Reminds us of His birthday / Our happy Christmastide. Now break the center open / And here you will release, / The five white doves awaiting / To spread Good Will and Peace. The soul has a journey that might also be called a quest. Each of us has one and no two are alike. We are unique beings created to last forever. This work represents The Spirit, The Living Soul. The Soul cannot be fathomed, it is bright and energetic, filled with a searching, reaching out, a brilliant vibrant light in the darkness. A painting of an angel on the wall at an abandoned mental asylum was perfectly placed to have a beam of light passing across it from a nearby window, giving it somewhat of a poetic feeling.

I was working with a combination of an image I got several years ago from a newspaper story about the shroud of Turin. The original image was very poor and I had to recreate the face using the newspaper image as a model. Then I worked with I worked with Micrografx, Photoshop and Apophysis to create the finished work. I experimented a little and got several works that I really like. I hope you enjoy them. Although we do not know what Christ really looked like because the Hebrew people did not draw or paint images of anyone because it was against their religion, we do have ideas we have formed based upon legend and theories that have been passed down through time and have become a generally accepted image that comes to mind when we think of Christ. This series is enspired by scripture from the Holy Bible. This is the second of nine in the series. What I was amazed by is the same face looks so different when using a different overlay. Nevertheless, they crucified Him. Scripture tells us they were blinded for the sake of the Gentiles. That had they not crucified Him, we would not have His righteousness by which we might escape the punishment for our sins. He willingly took our sins upon Himself…and gave us His righteousness to wear as a cloak, a wedding garment which cleanses us and imputes His righteousness upon us when we accept it as a free gift…the greatest gift of all, eternal life. A church is not made up of bricks and stones. It is made up of all the people who go there. The people are the lifeblood and purpose of the gathering place we call “My Church”. I was a member of this wonderful church in Orange, California called Orange Villa Bible Church. But we moved away from there and now we are seeking a new one. The new church we attend will have to go a long way to live up to the standards of this little church in Orange, California. The people and the pastor and his family made this the greatest church we have ever attended. They teach the word of God and are not afraid to stand up for the truth. The pastor always gave messages that touched the heart and soul when he shared his inspiration and teachings from the pulpit or in any personal capacity. We had wonderful family gatherings where everyone brought a dish, we played games, baseball, horse shoes, and much more. The whole atmosphere of the church is love and caring for one another and the love of Jesus Christ. I did this art as a composite to represent the whole church as I see it. I combined a picture of the church, the pastor and many of the members. I used overlays and special editing with Photoshop CS3 and Micrografx to create the finished work. Dearest children, / The most wonderful thing has happened. / I don’t know where to begin / except to try to tell you with words / that are totally inadequate to explain / the wonder of what I am about to say. I was feeling really sick / and my body was heavily laden. / You all were so wonderful / as you gathered around my bed / and took turns holding my hand / trying so hard to relieve my pain. It all happened so quickly / and yet it seemed to take a lifetime / as I watched my mother give birth to me / and my father passing out cigars / each one tied up with a pink satin ribbon / so very proud of his newborn babe. I heard me speaking my first words / and saw them reaching arms outstretched / as they rejoiced about me taking my first steps. / Then on my knees beside my bed / Mama was kneeling next to me / teaching me for the first time to pray. Papa was swooping me up in his arms / giving me a big hug with obvious tears in his eyes / and I wasn’t quite sure and was wondering why. / There she was, Mama holding my hand / and hiding her tears on my first day of school / because it broke her heart to be sending me away. In cloud a swirl and now I was up on stage. / My hard earned diploma was put in my hand. / Then I traded college for a wedding band / which was something I never ever regretted. / Having been truly blessed unlike any other / my spirit soared because I had found my soul mate. In a spin, I saw each of you being born / and I laughed as I got to hold you in my arms again. / Then in an instant you were speaking your first words / and taking your first steps and skinning your knees. / There was your daddy putting on your first band-aid / and we were beside your bed teaching you how to pray. I was standing on the outside yet somehow within / watching and listening, laughing and crying, beholding / each moment, each second, each stubbed toe, each tear / that fell from your eyes. First love, college, broken hearts / mended fences, hopes and dreams all caught up in a cloud / all came in a flash and then swiftly faded away. Dark clouds and black clothing, flowers and dirt. / Pain so piercing deep in my heart, sorrow and loss / no one and nothing could even console. / Their wrinkled hands and sweet faces were gone / and their voices soft spoken and remembered prayers / passed in a moment from childhood to grey hair. / Death had paid a visit and I could still feel the taste. Grandchildren and joy unlike any other / filled our home with the sound of tiny feet and laughter. / Careers fulfilled, missions accomplished, love, hate and / fear each rolling in waves marching like raindrops / falling gently then pouring torrents pelting my senses / touching my heart, ripping my soul, gripping my thoughts / ebbing and flowing time and again. Then I saw in my mirror a familiar face / where I once had been my mother stood there in my place. / My youth had vanished and I felt no sorrow for its loss. / Wisdom, patience and tender mercy I now had instead. / It didn’t matter that I walked now and could not run. / My feet were following in the footsteps of grace. I had felt all alone when your Daddy was called home. / I was sure I couldn’t make it another minute without him. / But his sweet face came to comfort me in dreams / and I lifted my head, then I dropped to my knees. / I still had a life and a job to complete / so I washed my face and decided Heaven could wait. In a swirl, a rainbow of raspberry clouds filled the air. / Why couldn’t you see them, as I lay in my bed? / The room filled with light and all my pain was gone / and I tried to tell you but you couldn’t hear. / In the blink of an eye I had left you all behind / and you never saw the angels that carried me away. I wanted to tell you so that you wouldn’t cry / that I’ve only gone home and this isn’t goodbye. / So, I’m writing you this letter from the other side. / I’ll send it in your dreams and whisper it in your mind / I’m alive my darlings and I want you all to rejoice / and yes, Lord Jesus is here with me in this wonderful place. amari I wrote this poem in honor of my mother who I know is alive and well waiting for me to come home some day. My dog River posing for a portrait in the snow. She has ALWAYS liked her picture being taken since she barely opened her eyes at two weeks of age. Her litter mates ran around when the camera aimed at them but she stood in attention every time a photo opportunity showed up! :) I’m sure she’d be glad that I donate the proceed of the sale of her photos to Nature Canada as she loves woods and her deer friends as much as I do! :) Donation to charity / 50% of the proceeds of the sale of this image will be donated to Nature Canada.

The Angel of the North one of the most photographed works of public art n the north of England if not the country as a whole. I felt it required a fresh view and as Easter was fast approaching and the word Angel being Hebrew for messenger I thought an artistic take would be to re-create the crucifixion scene for a modern day audience.
