St. Paul’s Chapel, NYC You only need to take a glance at this place to know it’s special… George Washington once worshipped here… this place also saw the worst of 9/11, and brought out the best in those who came here to help others recover from it.
Oil on canvas – 20×16 This work was the direct result of my wife and I visiting the National Gallery of Art in DC to see some Rothkos. It was the not the first time, but it was when the “lights went on” for me and the power of his work as far as seeing it in real life. The quadrants that frame the cross were a deliberate attempt in trying to imagine/emulate what the process must have been like for Rothko (my all time favorite). So, this was kind of like a 5 year-old kid throwing a baseball to his dad and pretending that he is in the big leagues. That being said, it is a reflection from my heart concerning my faith. The over-thinned area in the top right quadrant symbolizes the crown of thorns from Matthew 27. The gradiant shadings are representations of the varies stages of blood that were shead that day. This is one is a departure from my main work, the majority of which use really vibrant colors. I’m a newb to RB and work full time, so will be trying to add more as time permits. Thanks for any comments. You can check out my other stuff in the mean time at http://www.rayschloss.com .
515 Views. Never seen anything like this. I found it tucked away in the back corner of a large cemetary in Texas. Someone put alot of work into constructing this. Creepy looking, yet very cool. / /
