Another self-portrait for my photography final, “Fragmented Self-Image”. I was bulimic with anorexic tendencies for a few years. / In a way, eating was a painful and difficult thing to do, and I always regretted eating. I felt as if anything I consumed would do harm and damage to my body. / Altered the title to Anorexia Bulimia, because it applies to both, not just anorexia. I was mostly bulimic anyway, and felt this way all the time.

January 26 is Chinese New Year. In past years, I have cooked supper for my family on Mardi Gras but in the last couple of years we have gathered for Chinese New Year. Because of conflicting schedules this is set to happen on February 7th but I am already planning the meal. These placemats and chopsticks were a gift from one of the girls on my staff last year, having gone home to China for five weeks to visit her family. Sold as business card design in April 2009 Also available on Zazzle including as a business card for restaurants with an Asian based theme front / back
This started out a bit like a self portrait, but I decided to change the colour of the hair to make the image more interesting. I’ve always loved orange – it’s bright and attractive and lively.

Bowl of stir fried udon noodles garnished with black sesame seeds and fresh mint with green chopsticks Karin’s Fabulous Stir Fried Udon Recipe / (or as my son’s friends used to call it when they were kids, “Fried Worms”) 1/2 package of udon or soba noodles (whole wheat or white) / 3 T tamari or soy sauce / 2 T brown or white rice vinegar / 1 T light or dark sesame oil / Red pepper flakes to taste / Sesame seeds, green onions for garnish (I used mint in the photo, because that is all I had in the house…turned out pretty tasty!!!) Boil the noodles until al dente, and then rinse under cold water. Add tamari, rice vinegar, sesame oil and red pepper flakes to the empty pot, and heat to a boil. Drain the noodles and add to the pot. Stir until liquid has evaporated and coated the noodles. Serve with sesame seeds and green onions (or mint).
