This is in my backyard, a while ago, before the foxes got my chooks. Next doors horse ‘Shaka’ was always interested in the scraps I threw out for them. Now, there’s no chooks and no Shaka either. / Done in watercolour pencils on grey mat board. Approx size – 28cm x 40cm. 2003. Sold

Included in the mix are moulding paste for the eggs, gold and bronze paint, silver thread, fabric, charcoal, ink, pastel and acrylic with a gloss varnish over the eggs. / There is a poem in the background in gold cursive handwriting, which reads: Hidden Treasure Golden eggs are not always easy to find / Sometimes they lay hidden in the pockets of our seams / Sometimes we have to look beyond the obvious to see / the beauty in others~ traits of kindness, compassion, nurture and / gentleness are not always obvious at first glance and / what one may perceive as a fault or weakness / may actually be a great strength. Pastel on grey Colourfix sanded paper. 70cm x 50cm The sun goes down and it’s time for bed for my colourful little group of chooks! They all have their specific locations, and there is much feather fluffing and fidgeting until everyone is happy that they are in the correct pecking order and all is right with the world! This is a fairly old painting (circa 2003), so some of them are now running around in that big chook pen in the sky! There is a whole new generation who are equally beautiful. The very handsome fellow in the middle of all the girls was called ‘Pavarotti’ (he had a wonderful voice)! Finished in the Top Ten of the ‘Mental Alchemy’ challenge in the First Things group – May 2009

this is the short story…as a child we had chickens i loved to play with them…..the ‘first drawing’ of me and a chook was chalked on the wall of the shed…..i still love chicken! / i folded a large piece of paper and then i added lots of watercolour, acryclic and pastels and pencil…i added lots of layers and then the paper started to rip…... of well adds some flavour!!! now has been patched!!
