  • Dainty China People
    by lianne

There’s a chapter in the Wizard of Oz that was left out of the movie version with which we are all very familiar. It’s called “The Dainty China Country” and in it the beautiful china princess says to Dorothy, “…one is never so pretty after being mended, you know.” Dorothy doesn’t argue but I have to disagree… of course. [A bit of a continuation of my last poem, “No Wisdom From the Wizard” – there are 15 books in the original Oz series but enough left out of the original book in the movie version to provide a lot of food for thought!]

  • Tibet. Genocide is not a Postcard
    by lightsmith

Snap Snap, Feign a grin, / The Peoples Camera is watching you, / You’d better hide the truth within, / Animals of the Peoples Zoo. The Wo…

Since the unlawful Chinese occupation of Tibet in 1949 over a million Tibetans have been killed. This is not some ancient history thing – people are still being killed today. The cultural, religious and environmental destruction is sickenning. But who cares in the world? After all, Tibet has no oil. I wrote this many years ago, but it is sort of relevant today – especially with the Olympics focus coming. It’s time the world did something for a people who continuously fight for freedom, with peace. If ever a ‘fight’ deserved to win, it’s this one.

  • My Thoughts on Documentary Photography
    by massrapid

I’ve been wondering, why people go to such effort to document stories … Surely people don’t just do it for a Pulitzer recognition or so…

I wrote this first on a private blog, but I’m posting it here for your thoughts. It is a personal opinion on documentary photography, and photography in general. With the proliferation of camera technology, I think it is good to ask yourselves some questions. What is photography? What defines you as a photographer? What is your photography ethic?
