Great Wall Heroes / Great Wall is the only man made architecture in the world that can be seen in the outer space! Having built long since ancient time, nowadays many sections of it have been ruined by natural disasters. Because of the remote and usually hard to reach geological locations that it extends into, heavy machinery and modern maintenance methodology cannot be deployed to restore those destroyed area. It is these local construction workers you’ll see in the calendar’s pictures that are putting in a great effort to re-build it, by using handy tools most of the time. / The repairing materials would be picked up by donkeys or horses and then delivered, by climbing through some narrow and winding trails, to particular spots where the workers were working on one at a time. The exposed stones you see in the pictures are actually the “ORIGINAL STONES” that were used couple of thousand years ago when the Great Wall was being built!!

Throughout China, signs are used to inform, guide and regulate. As an English speaker, some of these tickled my sense of humour, however I could never rise to the challenge of writing signs in Chinese. I wanted to share some of these with you. / I photographed signs in Xian, Fengdu, Nanjing, Huan Shan, Nanjing, Chengdu and Shanghai, and have placed them in context with scenes from the same areas. / Public signs help us understand the writers and what they seek to achieve. In this way we can gain further empathy with the Chinese people. We lived in Asia for many years – visited China a lot when we lived in Hong Kong. I would go to Beijing and Shezen regular. I took advantage of a maid in Hong Kong and saw Xian and Kunming.
