Chefchaouen is a city in northwest Morocco. It is the chief town of the province of the same name. Chefchaouen is situated in the Rif Mountains, just inland from Tangier and Tetouan. The city was founded in 1471, as a small fortress which still exists to this day, by Moorish exiles from Spain to fight the Portuguese invasions of northern Morocco. It was known as one of the main concentrations of Moriscos and Jews who sought refuge in this mountainous city after the Spanish Reconquista in medieval times. In 1920, the Spanish seized Chefchaouen to form part of Spanish Morocco. They returned the city after the independence of Morocco in 1956. The name ‘Chefchaouen’ refers to the shapes of the mountain tops that tower over the town, that look like the two horns (chaoua) of a goat. It literally means “look at the horns”. The blue-rinsed houses and buildings, are a tradition that comes from the town’s former Jewish population. (Care of Wikipedia) / The Blue City

Meet my daughter. :) This title has a dual meaning for me. First, every moment we get to spend with our children is precious, isn’t it? I think that we often get so caught up in our day-to-day lives and worries that we forget to enjoy each new moment that we have with these special little people. Just the other day my daughter was teaching her “baby brother” (who is actually a stuffed bear) how to handle a snake. I was running around doing something that I’m certain that I felt was important, and I very nearly missed this amazing sight. I was most grateful that I stopped and watched her. Whatever I was doing couldn’t have been more important than seeing her show her stuffed bear how to hold the snake with two hands (paws?) and explain that he needed to be careful and be gentle because if the snakey is scared, it may bite. The second meaning has to do with the fact that this child will never hold still and smile for my camera. She either sticks her fingers in her mouth, makes a funky face, looks at the ground, turns around, or just runs away. So it is a precious moment indeed when I accidentally get a good shot of her when she’s not looking. :) Thank you very very much Julie Langford for your help with the post-work on this shot. I have no idea how you do it, and I’m extremely grateful that you were willing to give this shot your magical touch! Have you seen her puffin shots ? If not, head over, they are awesome. :) 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this work will be donated to Gorilla Haven.
