Sales of this Design? – 1 sale so far :) / Heart of Gold by Neil Young I am thinking of you Paul, and sending all my love, thoughts and prayers while you are in hospital undergoing heart surgery…. oct 08 / Heart of Gold is a mixed media production on watercolour paper / and one of my most recent paintings The painting itself was inspired by a response to Sylvia, the character in Bryce Courtney’s novel who led the Children’s Crusades during medieval times. In my painting, Sylvia is on a quest, just as I am, always searching for a heart of gold. She has the key to unlocking goodness and kindness and truth hanging from her belt, and she carries a staff with a beautiful flower and wears a crown, symbolising that she is both shepherdess and a leader of her people. Her horse also wears a heart around his neck. They rely on one another for support and encouragement during difficult times.

Frankie and Temperance by Paul Rees-Jones Frankie was made in a hurry, in the lab, / Brought to life on a cold electric slab. He was given a body with all of the parts, / And was given an oversized heart. From the moment he saw her , she was his deliverence, / That dead Lil Zombie, the cute and lovely Temperance. He swooned and swayed, thought he’d pop a stitch, / Whenever around her, his voice lost it’s pitch. He planned and tried so often to say, / The words in his heart every day. Now if he knew how Temperance felt for him, / He wouldn’t have worry, nor feel so grim. Cause when she looked at him with her good eye, / Inside her cold heart was a loving sweet sigh. So there they are these sweet Lil dears, / All thats stopping their love is their silly fears.

Chefchaouen is a city in northwest Morocco. It is the chief town of the province of the same name. Chefchaouen is situated in the Rif Mountains, just inland from Tangier and Tetouan. The city was founded in 1471, as a small fortress which still exists to this day, by Moorish exiles from Spain to fight the Portuguese invasions of northern Morocco. It was known as one of the main concentrations of Moriscos and Jews who sought refuge in this mountainous city after the Spanish Reconquista in medieval times. In 1920, the Spanish seized Chefchaouen to form part of Spanish Morocco. They returned the city after the independence of Morocco in 1956. The name ‘Chefchaouen’ refers to the shapes of the mountain tops that tower over the town, that look like the two horns (chaoua) of a goat. It literally means “look at the horns”. The blue-rinsed houses and buildings, are a tradition that comes from the town’s former Jewish population. Folk Devils and Moral Panics / This is artwork I have just completed for one-man-music-show Onemancabal / I just wanted to share this piece because I am so very proud of it, I put my heart and soul into this work – and I think when you listen to the music you’ll agree it suits. The idea for this piece was to create a long artwork that would be divided into the various parts of the CD packaging – so the far left is the cover, with the middle section on the inside front cover and the inlay, and the far right is the back of the CD. My intention was to have just a few characters coming onto the front and back of the case, to entice people to open it up and be blown away by the intricate illustration inside. Like a reward for buying the CD! We wanted to have innocent looking characters with a slightly sinister edge to them – reflecting the music (which has some beautiful folky, traditional sounds but isn’t all it seems). It was a great blend of my two distinctive styles and I am absolutely in love with it! / I’ll be posting details and credits on my website soon – and perhaps some snap shots of how it all came together…enjoy! P.S This is only a demo CD, so fingers crossed Onemancabal gets signed and we can all buy his beautiful music…
